Well, that wasn't as expected...quite...go Dovi! And great result from Smithy given his performance to date...rock on proper qually tomorrow!,
My hats off to Cal, once again the boy is proving that he's got simple bloody mindedness and he's a front runner. if yamaha supported him like Honda support their satellite teams I really think he could rock the top spots regularly, maybe that's why they don't. peddars struggling, rossi looking happy, Marquez looking dangerous and Lorenzo..... Well, that boys just swiss clock accurate, it's a style that you admire more than get thrilled about but he's just relentless and rattles of precision laps time n time again. Its gonna be a good season. if only stoner was still playing
I couldn't work it out but given Qatar is spread over 4 days I think not... But it did rain there so I think in the teams minds if the weather turns bad the times from today may count. I think it'll all be done tomorrow, that will be the norm. I could well be wrong though!
They said the top 10 are g'teed to make qually, so someone either has gone now OR there is a 2 stage qually tom where top 10 are in and the rest battle out to get the remainder. They said its like F1 but thats all in an hour, so its nothing like F1 lol
MotoGP will bring in a Formula 1 style split qualifying system from the 2013 season. The change will see the 10 fastest riders from the three practice sessions move straight through to a second qualifying session on Saturday. The rest will first take part in another 15-minute session, with the top two moving into the second group. The final 12 riders will then have just 15 minutes to post their fastest times and make up the grid for Sunday's race. The changes only affect the MotoGP class, with support series in Moto3 and Moto2 keeping the current system, an hour-long session for all riders on Saturday afternoon.
So this lot are thru to the final bit, with 2 more from the rest 1. Marc Marquez (Spa) Repsol Honda 1:56.084 2. Jorge Lorenzo (Spa) Yamaha 1:56.085 3. Cal Crutchlow (GB) Tech 3 Yamaha 1:56.326 4. Valentino Rossi (Ita) Yamaha 1:56.416 5. Andrea Dovizioso (Ita) Ducati 1:56.417 6. Dani Pedrosa (Spa) Repsol Honda 1:56.502 7. Alvaro Bautista (Spa) Gresini Honda 1:56.572 8. Nicky Hayden (USA) Ducati 1:56.670 9. Bradley Smith (GB) Tech 3 Yamaha 1:56.901 10. Stefan Bradl (Ger) LCR Honda 1:56.984
That Ducati works awesome in a straight line tho, given Dovi made half a second from last corner to the line
Then come race day they have to run the engines lean to save fuel to finish the race! dumb rule imho!! Only 1 sec from first to 10th is good and hopefully close racing. Roll on sunday night
Only daft thing is there are 12 non-CRT bikes so assuming the 2 which dont make the top 10 dont crash they will be back in the final qualifying anyway and so the final qualifying will be all the non-CRT bikes.... Seemed a bit more interesting than just practice but when you look at it that way maybe a bit pointless?
The stage it set for a cracking opener tomorrow. Well done Dovi and Iannone. Shame the yanks are letting the side down. Spies' wash out looked painful thou
According to his management on Twitter, Rossi's tyre was crap in the first quali and he got caught in traffic in the 2nd, not so sure about that and I'm a big fan. Well done Dovi, he's done an amazing job, Cal on a factory bike would be something else, upgrades for him in 4 races apparently.....Jorge's old bent break discs? Was great to watch it today!
Jorge showed his class tho. Funny how he and Cal seemed the only two to have clear track...and Dovi last lap!
Great effort from Dovi, feel sorry for Spies... Very sudden off again... Cal has earned the alien status now, looking forward to tomorrow now
