I'm taking a road trip in September (I may be able to delay it until early October) to my folks in Southern Spain, and will be stopping in Andorra for a couple of days en route on the way home. Two questions. 1) How abusive would snowboarding be to my dodgy leg? I'm inclined to think I've got enough time to learn to snowboard before I head to Spain in mid september, even if I don't start for a couple of months. 2) Will the slopes in Andorra be open in mid / late September? what is the snow season down there?
Am a skier, so unsure of the stresses on your dodgy leg due to gheying, but very little chance of Andorra ski resorts being open until late Nov, early Dec. I believe the mountain biking is pretty good around there, so could be a good leg strengthening session for you. hope the recovery is going well, btw. pete
Gheying? oooh err misses!! my leg was not injured gheying it up.... Mountain biking is a passion of mine (well Cycling in general) so thats definitely got legs.... (excuse the pun) The recovery is several months ahead of schedule, I'm where I expected to be in August, but I do always try and push myself, thanks for asking.
Yep, European resorts don't usually open until December (unless there's a glacier, then you might be able to do a bit high up). As Andora is even more Southerly than the Alps and not as high, I doubt there'll be anything at all open until December.
Won't be snow, or at least enough of it. Leg wise, well I bust both of mine last July and although still going to physio and possible ACL rupture I didn't have much issue boarding.
I reckon it would be more cycling rather than boarding I would imagine the lower legs would take a bit of strain due to the boots and heel/toe edges (I haven't been for about ten years and this is only a recollection)
Andorra wont be open for boarding then. As has been said before it's not high enough for early opening. The resort normally doesn't open till about 10th/11th December.
Dang, sounds like I got off lightly. Lower legs are fine, it was a double femur fracture for me, along with a broken hip and cracked pelvis. While Andorra will be a bit of mountain biking, it does sound like I could take up snowboarding at the snodome.
