talking of light? how many brexiteers does it take to change a lightbulb? one, to promise a brighter future and rest to screw it up... boom boom.
Alaska pays every permanent resident $2,000 a year to live there, perhaps if you get indi, you could try that too?
who gives a fuck. its the wrong question to ask of the wrong minister in the wrong Gov. nothing new. just more of the same.
It was from the shetland council fin, no other source, surely they would know more than mr who gives a fuck? Oh I forgot, they recently elected a lib dem as their mp with the snp being the first loser, they are now on the "you are not really scottish list"
yip, why would the Shetland council appeal to a gov, with no powers in the area thay want changed, with the help of a unionist paper? why, why noob?
Dunno fin, Scots are funny folk, even worse if they live on the smaller islands. They start thinking they are either vikings or Norwegians or summit, strange strange folk
I think this is a bonkers policy. Absolutely 100% wrong Even though my preferred option would be to remain I could not support this. Similarly, say the SNP took the same approach and said if they won 45+ seats then they would declare independence unilaterally? That would also be madness. This is not a serious policy. It’s about one thing only. It’s about keeping Jo Swinson in her seat and the Lib Dem’s not losing their leader the first time she is tested.
I am beginning to think the ones from the small islands are the "paragons of rationality" of the Free Folk. Especially those Shetland wildlings, they have their heads screwed on all right - relatively speaking.
Shetland has a warmer climate than the NE and Highlands of Scotland during winter, The Shetland Islands Council was once extremely wealthy due to the tax they negotiated with oil companies on loading oil from the Sullom Voe Oil Terminal (1p/barrel as I recall - during the period when 1 million b/d was not uncommon), The Shetland Islands Council run Sullom Voe Port Authority was the only port authority in the world which insisted on 4 tugs per crude carrier, The Shetland Islands Council was the largest employer in the Shetland Isles, The Shetland Island Council has a vested interest to try to maintain their wealth and will use The Shetland Times to further their case. Ask me how I know?
Not quite, they accept you after 5 years (just about to the day....) I had the misfortune of spending 6 years at Sullom Voe Terminal (I won't go as far as to say working) and was aware of the protracted negotiations with the SIC to reduce all tariffs to secure more business for the terminal (Foinaven oil went to Flotta because of the tariffs). So SIC have vested interest in re-feathering their nest in any way they can. Cold weather payments? Lerwick installed a district heating system in the late 90's when they replaced the power station - just for shits and giggles....
odd init, how some of the most conetrated areas of wealth yet have some of the poorest people. even in these small comunitees. i noticed that in aberdeen too when i lived there. whats it like as an island? worth a visit? i liked the orkneys when i went over in the bike and want to take the family next time.
a friend went out there for work. two things he noticed. 1. the poverty. 2. everybody seemed really happy. i guess perceptions of wealth/happyness differ accross the world.
Shetland is wet and windy like most islands it's good for archeology and birdwatchers, otherwise drinking to excess is quite popular - to be fair I think Orkney has more to see with St Magnus cathedral and the Italian chapel, then the old man of Hoy. There wasn't much poverty in the early 90's - council were still rolling in it - but I noticed the difference returning to Aberdeen in '97. I could say the same for Gt. Yarmouth though so it's not confined to Shetland/Aberdeen.
