Hi all, just bought a 2017 1299, it has just over a month of warranty left, it had 549 miles on the clock when I got it last week, it had a service at 450 last year, the service light has come on and I'm not sure if it's worth getting a dealer to service or do it myself, what do you reckon? My nearest garage is Riders Bristol or Louigis in Clutton, heard good things about Louigis, anyone know how much he charges for an annual service? TIA Russ
Even though there is nothing difficult about servicing it, a stamp un the book is worth more than £100 of labour (you have to buy the consumables anyway) on such a new bike. I get my Ducatis serviced by the main dealer for this very reason, when I come to sell them, any potential buyer can see I haven't skimped. Because I have a good relationship with my local dealer, I find them very reasonable tbh.
2 services missing from my service book damaged my px. My own fault but I just couldn’t be arsed to take it to dealer in the week when I’m always working. No excuse I know but I’d say get it dealer serviced like @Robarano says
Bit limited where to go, dont fancy fowlups (fowlers) might see if JHS do Ducatis, but they seem to mainly do jap bikes now, they wouldn't do my KTM. If anyone has any suggestions I'd be very grateful
It’s because of that that dealers can screw you on trade ins if you don’t. Great scam. Not a hope I’d go near a dealer for an annual service unless it was under warranty. But I don’t swap stuff all the time so the potential trade price doesn’t matter
300 squid for an alleged oil change seems a bit on the pricey side, paid £143 for an annual service on my KTM RC8 at a dealer, you attach the word Ducati to any product and the price doubles! Lush bike though
Meh - if someone services themselves and follows the service schedule, keeps the receipts and logs everything id be more than happy with that....in fact on the flipside how many have taken their bikes to a dealer and found somethings been bodged.? Im not saying everyone dealer does but someone who looks after their own bike (and enjoys the maintenance side of it) will go over it with a fine tooth comb if stuff needs doing. My zed passed the mot this year no issues but he did say that "next year itll fail on the notchy steering head bearings..." i changed them the next day....if i was selling the bike i could have left that and no one would have been non the wiser... Just offering a flipside to the discussion..
Nottingham, my first service was £200 but that includes more than just an oil & filter so it'll be cheaper for the simple service. I get your point mate and I do my own maintenance too, but for me personally it all depends on the age of the bike. a 3/4 year old 1299 is still an expensive bike and I would expect full dealer history on it. My old '99 R6 I'd think someone was mad to not do the oil themselves like I did, all perspective I guess.
Yeah - agreed but for me if he did the last service and had all the receipts and followed the schedule then id be happy. My zed is a 64 plate and its never seen the inside of a dealers garage....ive looked after it myself and it run perfectly...the swing arm will be coming out in a month or so to be recoated (and in turn swing arm linkage and bearings all replaced) - again the sort of thing that would never get done til the allotted time... At the pont it goes out of warranty moreso i cant see the issue...as long as its all been followed.
If it’s only done about 100 miles in about a year why has it shown as needing servicing? Some may choose to do that, fair enough, but I don’t think the bike would have demanded it?
