Nigel Mansell used to own a golf course near me. Allegedly, a bride and groom who booked their wedding there were delighted when Nigel turned up and chatted and posed with them and the guests. Until they got a hefty bill for his personal appearance that is.
I like Crutchlow, I find him a brake from the norm, it's good to see a different personality, even if you don't like them. A good show always has goodie and a baddie.
I think Cal is getting a bit snipey at the moment yes, but also I think he’s the best British rider we have had at world level since Bazza. He’s often top 6, again at the weekend he dug deep from a crap grid position and ended up 5th or whatever it was (race was so dull I forget!) Jonny Rea is the only other rider that I think could have done more than Cal has, Redding will be good in WSBK but if he wins people will say its because the bikes a weapon. Regarding J-Lo, whole separate thread, personally I think he’s lost the will to do it now. He can’t spend another year at Honda, whatever he does he can’t stay there
Time for 4or 5 new riders minimum in the paddock tbh. Look at what Qutararo (?) can do on a none factory Yam. Look at Miller, there seems to be some big names that are not delivering on factory rides while others ride their wheels off the bikes every race. Last race was a yawn fest with MM so far ahead after half a lap nobody got even near. As much as it pains me, Rossi, Lorenzo, Cutchlow, would be part of my first cull. And I am a big Rossi fan, we need him in the sprt somehow but maybe the time has come not to be a factory Yamaha rider. Zarco dont know what happened but he was fast as fcuk when he 1st arrived in mgp. Maybe should automatically bring up the top 3 from moto2 each season to spice things up?
Yeah, Rossi, there’s another thing for a different thread, he brings a load of money but he is a waste of a ride right now, he’s not doing a terrible job but like a number of others, he’s taking up a seat that another young hungry Fabio type could be battling Marquez with, I even think Zarco on Rossi’s bike right now would be doing a better job.
I agree regards Rossi (I have great admiration for him as a hugely talented rider who has brought the sport to the masses due his infectious character and is a media company's dream), as it's apparent he no longer has the physical ability to match the up and coming younger riders (age catches up with the best of us all ultimately) nor the need any longer to take unnecessary risks to be placed higher up the results table. Better to bow out gracefully at the end of the year (and no-one will think the worse of him if he did) than continue making up the numbers which is effectively what he is doing right now. I am sure with his company VR46 and his involvement with Moto3 that he won't actually stray too far from the paddock and the spotlight in general. As for Lorenzo, I cant see his contract being renewed beyond 2019 with Honda unless he can convince them of a change in his performance post a number of debilitating injuries, which seem to have all but eroded any confidence in himself on what should be on paper, one of the grid's most competitive bikes. As for Crutchlow, I'd give the ride to Jonathan Rea. Talented and articulate. More importantly rarely if ever blames others or his machinery whenever things dont go his way.
Crutchlow is marmite to many. I'm not a huge fan but at least he speaks his mind. He wants that Repsol seat and JL isn't delivering so I can see exactly why he is pushing for this, I laughed at the Mexican gag to be fair as that is what I took it at. Also, his comments about Nakagami wanting a factory bike if you read through past interviews you will see part of his contract to get a factory bike was based upon podiums/wins which he has achieved, Nakagami has yet to get anywhere near these results, which is why Cal's knickers are in a twist. Finally, Honda have fallen into the Ducati/Stoner trap by building a bike for one person only, so again I can understand where's coming from. I'm by no means defending Cal because he does think he is alien status, but clearly he isn't, he's just highlighting some of the politics we don't see as punters.
I don't get Crutchlow. He's constantly biting the hand that feeds him and then wonders why he's not getting upgrades. Yes he's the plucky Englishman and he sometimes does well, and he speaks his mind, but MotoGP is going all F1 and they want brand spokesmen now not clown princes. He might be great in the paddock, and everyone might love him and think he's the funniest guy ever, always cracking jokes, but when you're outside looking in it just seems like constant bitching. HRC won't let Lorenzo go; he's the second best rider behind Marquez and the only one who could beat MM given the right machine. They're happy to pay his bills and let him sit out as a non-threat until he retires. If he went back to Ducati, arguably the best machine right now, it could spell the end of the MM93 show. HRC know that Lorenzo can ride the Ducati. They also know the Marquez would be able to as well. Those two are going nowhere. Quatararo will be the next big thing given the right bike as he has the same confidence that Marquez came into the paddock with. I hope that he stays in MotoGP and gets a factory ride at some point.
Never met Cal, but from what I’ve read about him and seen for myself I like him. Mild irony in him being accused of sniping and the like when one reads this thread. At least he’s been there and done it.
He can be a bit of a Wally at times , but at least he has character. He’s fast as fuck too. And he falls off a lot. Unpredictable our Cal
I have my opinion and I don't really care about yours I was at Misano and watched Jaylo pottering around he must have embarrassed HRC I've been to most the European rounds this year so I've paid good money to have my opinion on Moto GP, Jaylo and Cruthlow
Everyone is allowed an opinion, it's your ignorance of anything MGP I'm asking about, I go to the cinema a lot, doesn't make me Steven Spielberg or Barry Norman does it?
