Based upon people riding home from petrol stations having dropped their keys, it would suggest the bike does not routinely check for a key after initial power on. The steering lock thing is bizarre though (mine never worked when I wanted it to )
You're correct! You don't need the key after a start. You can actually ride it until run out of petrol. Then you need the bloody key. Now, about the steering lock, I filmed starting and shutting off with weird sound coming from the lock. And yes, it tries to push the lock even with the steering straight. The hands free unit is a single body with the steering lock and side switches. I am wondering if the issue is not coming from that. I'll try to disconnect and see what happens but I've got a feeling that any loose conector will tell the dash: "don't do anything". Bloody electronics! Note: P&H only can "see" the bike in two weeks time! £150.00 for initial diagnostic plus whatever comes after that as I never serviced the bike with them. Hurray!
Warranty run out last March. While on warranty I pushed every "little niggle" back to them trying to sort the bike out. Run faultless for 6 months.
Note the noise coming from steering lock trying to insert the pin on wrong position...And it starts and shuts down on its own.
I had the cutout thing happen a few times on my 2012 MTS Tourer. They tracked it down to the right hand switchgear.
That's what I'm thinking right now. It looks like short circuit. With the amount of times I had brake fluid leaking on top of that, wondering if some has gone inside the switch damaging the contact. It HAS TO BE something simple!
And I'm most concern that they wouldn't find as per my experience earlier this year with my car, running multiple "diagnosis check ups" charged every time and never found what was making it go into limp mode. Weeks later a £5 can of contact cleaner and 10min to remove and clean air flow sensor sorted the problem... Again, it has to be something simple!
i think the red shut down switch (or Wires,short cut) is NOK. the lock receives the lock command in every handlebar position since MY 2013
I 100% agree. It sounds to me like you have an issue with the right hand switch. It looks in your picture like the red switch is down, in the switch off / kill position. Try pushing it back up into the normal run position. From a logical point of view it seems the stop button is telling the bike to switch off, same button is used to lock it, and same button to then power it up again. Single point failure causing these weird results. Is the switch stuck in ? If your mechanically minded you have nothing to lose (except possibly the odd small component) by taking the switch off the bars and having a check for yourself. If your not, why not try a different dealer ? If you have a friend with a van or trailer I would get the bike there that way. In my experience P&H are not very helpful when it comes to 'fitting you in' to get you going again.
that happened to my DVT , it was the ignition module that needed changing due to corrosion apparently. bike was 15 months old at the time. That's how I got my Ducati watch.
I agree with others, the RH handle bar switch would be my 1st port of call for diagnosis, as John says strip it down and have a look inside, make sure the button does not stick, I stripped mine on my previous model and built it back up with di-electric grease to keep the moisture out, and never had any problems with it at all You mentioned you got brake fluid over it, that could well have an effect on the plastic and gum the button up, I would definitely strip it and have a look inside
