Yes, the side stand switch from clutch slaver cylinder, which I have a new oberon slave cylinder to go on and also the front brake fluid from the reservoir onto the switch. (the little niggles to own a ducati, words coming from P&H manager). I will check the switch and post later. Cheer all.
I see every time the panel switches on, it does a speedo calibrate up to max then back to 0. My 2017 DVTs never does that.
I thought that was the normal as it always did that? So your bike doesn't run this calibration every time you start the dash??
With most of your comments in mind and special help with a step by step from John W, I partially opened the right hand switch and despite no visual problem, sprayed some contact cleaner and few minutes later reconnected the battery. With the switch still partially opened, (didn't take all the buttons apart, only the dash start one) it worked well for all the multiple times that I tried, including the stearing lock. However when I closed the switch and reconnected, started playing up again as previously was doing. Loose open and work fine. Haven't got much time to work on this, my days are very, very short, but I think I am on the right direction. Will keep you all posted. I'm interested to share whatever I find so it can help someone else just like this nice bunch is helping me. Got a story book and bed time routine for my 3 years old now.
great news you have narrowed it down. I agree with above, speak to your preferred dealer and get a new one on order. A new right hand switch is ~£100
The inner push button was out of position. Managed to put back but something that should hold it in place maybe snapped. It is working now, didn't take the bike for a spin yet, but will order a new switch anyway. https://drive.google.com/file/d/11hb6hfAWlMF0p6Rsc4nspuL9pnTkHOL8/view?usp=drivesdk
Incidentally, I checked on my 2016 Enduro and the steering lock does try and lock (when you push the button) even with the steering straight.
The more electronics they pack into modern vehicles , the more opportunities there are for some minor thing to go wonky and make the vehicle unusable , and as some have mentioned .... .... potentially life-threatening ! All of this added complexity forces owners to be more and more dependent on dealers , for even the most trivial electrical issues . Those side-stand switches are a nightmare , and even slightly insulting If my bike had one , I would have disabled it from day one . I prefer the very small risk of driving away with the stand down to having the switch fail without warning .... probably in the middle of nowhere . If I can't check my vitals before taking off , I shouldn't really be on a motorbike , should I ? And as for CAN-bus electrics ..... don't start me off , please !
Of course I'll do. By the way, I put the switch back together as mentioned and is working fine. Still going to replace by a new one before riding, but have not idea how it comes off the bar, as I only removed the back cover (the one with the start button) and could not find anything else fixing it in place on the bar. Also, to get better access I opened the throttle covers and obviously the bloody spring came off, spent 1 hour trying to fit it back unsuccessfully. What a nightmare.
