New Muli seat?

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Hookey, Apr 8, 2013.

  1. Hi. Here's a question for you, if anyone knows the answer:
I went to my local dealer on sat to have a test ride on a Diavel (great bike but I won't be swapping!) and I noticed the seats on the new Multistradas were nicer and fitted better than mine. Is that an upgrade on the new model and will it fit my 2010 model?
    Thanks in anticipation.

  2. It's defo a new feature on the 2013 bikes. Not sure if it'll retro fit but gut feeling says probably. Ask deale rig he'll let you try??

  3. The reply is an absolute NO. I spoke to the Ducati technical guy at the bike show on just this issue and the answer is that the 2012 onwards models have a different sub frame and mount. I wanted to do the same but the only way is to take a hacksaw and welder to the bike!!

  4. Oh well, worth an ask. Dealer didn't seem to know.
Thanks anyway. I'll pretend I never saw it.

  5. According to the catalogue on the Ducati website the 2012 and 2013 bikes share the same seat, if this is indeed correct then the man at the show is mistaken.

I have the 2012 comfort seats on my 2010 bike, the pillion seat is a slightly different profile which gives more space for the rider. You just have to modify the silver stud that locates the back of the front seat. I'm fairly sure I've put a post up about it before.

  6. So, is there an aftermarket seat that fits the early Multistrada 1200?
Please note: I do not have a fat ass, I'd just like a better looking/fitting seat.

  7. Muli seat? Multi, sorry. Doh! Just trying to sound kool.

  8. Yes there is but it's not cheap. Sargent do it. I've got the new touring seat on mine by the way and its fantastic.

  9. I have tested the 13`Granturismo seat`s on my 12` MTS. So 13` seat`s fit perfectly on a 12`bike.

There is no subframe difference etc on 10-11` and 12-13` bikes. Only difference is that there is a shorter helmet lock pin on the newer ones. It does not go thru the seat, like on the first ones. Change this pin and you can fit a 13` seat on your 10` with no problem :upyeah:

  10. Helmet lock? What helmet lock???

  11. The pin on the left side of the bike. Alu-coloured pin on top-right on this picture. This is on a 10-11 bike, the one on the 12-13 bikes are shorter. Hence the differences on the seat`s.

  12. Just checked what Andreas has said with the parts catalogues and he looks to be spot on. The subframes are the same. I know the helmet lock pin has changed for 2012 on, but that appears to be the only change to allow the later seats to fit.

  13. Interesting. Why couldn't the Ducati people tell me this? I think they are far too defensive about their product and probably don't like to give their customers credit for any ingenuity. I will now go and compare a 2013 model with my 2012 model and make my own decision!!

    Thanks Andreas.

  14. I just assumed that was to locate the seat!! What's that additional wiring just below it and slightly to the left of it for?

  15. A couple of mins with a hacksaw and a bastard file - it's only soft ali.

  16. I've just advertised my DP comfort seats which may be of interest?

  17. I just used a picture I found on Google, so I do not know what the extra wiring is for..

  18. So as I understand it, you can fit a 2013 seat to a 2010 (or any other) bike but preferably need to swap the helmet pin too?

  19. Yes, either swap it for the new one, or cut the original down to about half-height.

  20. Well you learn something everyday, thats a right faff tho taking both seats off to hang helmet on that tho
