1200 DVT Fitting Riser Bars

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by SteveE, Sep 28, 2019.

  1. Has anyone fitted the Ducati own make 30mm riser to a 1200 DVT and if so, was there enough cable stretch to be able to DIY easily? Any constructive advice welcome!

  2. I found 20mm risers were about the extent of what I'd have been happy stretching the cables / wiring to... and must say that the steering felt less direct with the Ducati Performance 20mm riser kit fitted. Wasn't a fan, and didn't make that much of a difference. I'd guess 30mm might require some planning for the wiring and could result in changing the feeling through the bars.

    YMMV

  3. Thanks that's helpful. I've got a bad shoulder and thought the reach might be affecting it but I'd rather put up with it if its going to ruin the steering.

Only just realised the ones I bought were 30mm also.

I want the steering brought back slightly, rather than upwards. Maybe I'll just have to sit further forward and sacrifice my sperm count :)

  4. I have a dicky shoulder too and had the same idea... weirdly with the bars being higher and a bit closer I had more pain, it felt like I was lifting my arms higher and that exacerbated the situation rather than helped it. On my current Multi I left them where they are but (being a shortarse at 5' 8") fitted the low seat on the low setting and that seems to have done the trick. I do get pain on multi-day trips but it's manageable.

Another tip would be ibuprofen before riding (pills or gel) as it is an anti-inflamatory, and I get sports-massage therapy on it too to unwind the muscles in my neck and shoulder. Blooming miserable getting old... :(

  5. Hi, put them on my 1260 without any problems, now sat a little more upright very comfortable for me anyway.

  6. Thanks, were they 30mm or 20mm rise and how did they help the ride? Any change to the handling?

  7. They were 30mm risers and I find no difference in turning in just a little more upright.

  8. Thanks Manxxi, did you fit them yourself? How did you keep the bars out of the way when fitting the risers and lower clamp?

  9. Just laid the bars on a towel across the tank and got to work on it.

  10. Thanks

  11. Also put a pen mark on the bar and top clamp in order to put back in same position.

  12. I've had a set on my DVT and 1260, very happy with them.

If you are looking to bring them back towards you I have a set of Rox risers I was going to sell, you can adjust them to bring the bars closer to you as well as a little higher.
I'm away in Australia at the moment but let me know if you are interested. I'm looking for £30 plus postage. The ones I have are silver Aluminium finish

  14. Does anyone know for sure if there's a difference between 1200S pre-DVT, 1200S DVT and 1260s handlebar diameter / clamp measurements i.e. are the handlebar and clamps compatible or incompatible between all three models?

  15. Pretty sure they are all the same diameter.

People in the past have fitted renthal fatbars, so they are a standard size. Details were on the motorcycle info multistrada web pages

From memory the pre-dvt GT models had slightly higher bar clamps.
The enduro has a bar riser as standard under the bar mount, which is the same as the dvt one I think.
I was going to remove them on mine but got used to them now.

If in doubt go have a trawl through the on line parts lists at www.bike-parts-ducati.com and compare the numbers ;)

One thing to note - the controls on the bars are located on holes/pegs. If you swap bars or rotate them you may need to address this, so you can adjust the angle of the levers and switches.

  16. That’s really helpful thanks to all

  17. Yesterday, I installed the $30 ebay risers on my '19 1260S and today I rode 185 miles with them. A good move for me, and while the aluminum is a different color, no one will notice. Less than 30 minutes to install, no change in cables other than loosening a zip tie in the middle. 30 mm rise.
