Hi, I’m restoring a 916 1997 and have found the eprom is marked 748 see picture , I need a new one i think ,I have 45mm termis and a foam air filter over the throttle body type , any recommendations please ?
I've not long since picked one up off ebay for a 748. The guy seems to have most models covered. Fitted and worked a treat. Seller is http://ebay.co.uk/mr-yokobori Decent money and delivery was good.
If it was fitted by Baines I would be almost certain it is correct. Only doubt in my mind is the filters. Why don’t you give Geoff at Baines a call? He is really approachable and helpful.
My chip says 916 and it’s in a 748 with 45mm Termis and standard, thin as net curtains, air filters in the air tubes. Mine was dealer fitted. Go figure. Aren’t they the same EPROM regardless of 748/916 engine?
a 916 will run with a 748 chip but the chip controls fueling so it would no doubt run very lean across the whole range given that the 748 is 18.3% smaller than the 916 so would, by extension use about 18% less fuel all other things being the same
I agree with your theory but the chip sends a signal to the injector to open passing a volume of fuel for a certain time, the 748 and 916 injectors are probably what controls the volume required - the chips may be identical for both bikes but different injectors? As Jack said probably a good idea to talk to Baines as they should know their onions (chips)
You could be right there. I was of the opinion the injectors were identical. Agree that the chip needs to be checked. It could be the only thing wrong with it is the writing on the top. Does the EPROM control the rev limiter or is it in the main board? If it's in the chip you could have a 916 that will rev to 11,500
My 999 doesn't have a 999 ECU in it but a later one with a map for my 999 flashed onto it. Could that be the case here or do eproms not work like that?
Would think the rev limiter is in the chip? AFAIK the ECU and injectors are the same. Just because it says '748' on it might not mean it's wrong though, it may even be a re-programmable unit? The chip in mine says nothing on it but was custom mapped by CJS who used the original 062 ('Senna') chip parameters for the baseline and then altered fuelling/ignition to suit the tuning.
Thanks for all the information I’ll dig a little deeper, if anyone has a chip to sell please message me , thanks again all
