Junk Gsx750r 1986 Project

Discussion in 'Other Bikes' started by El Vikingo Tropical, Aug 23, 2019.

  1. Some days later I went visiting a guy at in the neighbourhood as he was supposed to have a engine for sell, but once there i discovered it wasn’t the correct one.
Chatting with him about bikes he told me had a old set of pistons in a box, When I saw them I couldn’t believe my eyes, he had a brand new set of Wiseco 760cc high compression forged piston in he’s garage just two km away from my house in the island collecting dust:eek:
The world is incredible, you never know what’s around next corner!

  2. Now with the bigger bore pistons in place things begin looking more positive.
The carbs was taking a nice ultrasound bath and the repair set was on it’s way.
I still today don’t know what to do with the cylinder head, but a British friend offer me a good one for free if I just pay the postage for sending it.
I will have a look on that next week.

The callipers need also to be repaired I and the spares on its way.

  4. I had the chassis and swingarm back from powder coating in black.

The OEM front end is under restoration to have when if needed but I will probably run the bike with a Zxr6 front improving the grip and brakes, I will also use the wheel from the same bike.
This doesn’t excludes restoring the oem wheels and suspension, why?
I may run some classic racing series with this bike and the won’t let me use modern parts.

I bought the cheapest piston compressors from China and they worked well once I cut the compression rings at half as they was to wide for a short stroke bike engine
I made also a couple wood plates to block the pistons.
Now everything in place and ready for next step.

  14. This afternoon had some time for my little ratbike so I welded the together the shocker support from the OEM 86 Gixer to the later and wider swingarm.
I have opted for this more modern unit as I like the look and as it’s take much wider rims.
I still need make some minor works at it as the the axel diameter of the wheels and chassis not the same as in the swingarm.
After that I will send it for powder coating in black.

  15. At least the bike is down on the floor on its wheels, this feel very nice to see again.

I’ve spent this afternoon adjusting the suspension linkage to get the correct hight at the rear.

  17. Quick questions Elvik -

What has been your favourite rebuild?

how many of your finished creations are there currently flying around the Canary Islands?

and once finished, do you actively advertise them for sale?

Your work is impressive and photo updates are much appreciated. :upyeah::upyeah::upyeah:

  18. Buenas tardes!
There is many of my creations around, not just bikes.
Build my first bike with the help of my father when I was 8 using parts from old mopeds, My dad was always telling old (and still does) stories when he raced in Speedway and Ice-racing when young in the 60th.
In other words I have been a petrolhead since child!
In other words there have been a lot of projects some went out better the others I suppose....
I’m now planing copy my old Saab Sonnet ll from 1969 and make a EV electric car using battery from a Tesla and full carbon fibre body...
But first I have to finish this Gixer....

  19. Back after some issues with part to arrive and fitting.
The engine is now in place but I haven’t still finished the cylinder head.
The front and rear suspensions is now in place with tailor made spacers and bushings.
Rearsets has arrived as well but still need some fitting to put it in place.

I still need to finish the cylinder head.

Brought also a GSX750F 89” engine as it was cheap, but the guy who sold me it told me that it’s was leaving a lot of oil smoke.

I have opend it up and it’s need pistons so I leave this one for future projects..

A and by the way I have just purchased a Multistrada DS1000.
I but that will be another tread
