A friend has been restoring this thing and for some reason asked if I had ideas. I'll skip the story and just tell you what can be checked off: new battery, reg, fuel lines/connectors, fuel pump, injectors. Atomisation seems OK. Bike turns over fine but no go. Spray some carby cleaner and it roars to life and then dies. Error codes (WTF? I have an 851 - if it has codes then I have some learning to do) have been cleared by a Ducati Dealer who claimed it was good to go and when he got it back same problem. I know my summary is garbage but that reflects my level of understanding of the bike. Ideas or even a checklist that I can pass on? (I assured him this forum was filled with the very knowledgable )
last time I used easy start on a petrol (jag) if blew the air box to pieces. I no longer recommend using easy start on petrols. it does sound fuel related. fuel pump priming and producing 2bar plus?. injectors injecting?. constant 12v+ at injectors?
On my 2001 was a little black push button for the choke/cold start, its near the throttle It deactivates when the throttle is rolled forward
Iff that's the one under the throttle, all it is, is a fast idle button, just holds the throttle slightly open. Steve
The injectors? They're brand new. He got all the stuff in my first post from one of your crew Moto Rapido along with advice. All lines in and outside the tank are new.
If it's got spark and fuel the only thing missing is compression!! Ah but you say it goes on easy start?? Doesn't make sense
I wholly agree. Thanks for the input. The guy would tear his hair out if he had any. His next step is to send it off to some "guru" in LA. Will post back here when/if said guru resolves it.
There was an earlier thread about a non starting bike which sounded eerily similar to this. Turned out he had some bent valves.
