I have a gopro black . it is so easy to use and so small . The picture is first class, better than I will ever need, The actual camera , when out of case , is as small as a box of matches and only the size of a swan vesta pack when in it . It came with loads of fittings for attaching it to where ever . Battery life is good, but not when blue tooth is enabled . Down to about 90 minutes . The screen is an add on though . in total I paid £400 for it from china somewhere but I bought the camera, the screen , 5 batteries and a charger, A further clamp thingy , a lens covers and a case for it all to go in .
CORRECTION!!! The battery life on the GoPro HD 3 is nothing short of terrible. I have 3 batteries 2 being Wasabi ones which hold slightly more power. The GP 2 has an hour longer battery life, the battery is actually larger on the 2. I know this as I have both the 2 and 3 and ran them next to each other. Also add the cold weather when running the camera which diminishes the battery life also. You can get real time recent temp figures of approx :45 -50 minutes on a full charge with a 3 with the wifi off. God only knows what you get with the wifi on.
Thats right what you say I forgot I had been using this when I got about 90 minutes out of it . dont think I get 40 with the smaller battery and I only use wifi when I know it will be short on offs.
just got a sony as15 for the TT trip. quality is amazing and also has steadyshot. 170 degree or 120 degree lens it has wifi and with the free sony app on the store it enables you to realtime watch videos on your smartphone from the camera and change the camera settings etc so you dont need a pc. you also dont need to be near a wifi hotspot as it creates its own and once its in its case you can use your phone to download videos. upload to net straightaway and havent gotnto keep opening the waterproof / shockproof case for any reason typical sony quality...
I've been looking at buying an HD camera for months now and keep delaying it but I've had exactly the same experience watching all these. There's often deals on the 3 Silver at the £200 mark and people selling Hero 2 packages at £300+. It's silly. I've been looking into a Drift 720 for about £120 or a Drift 1080 for around £160... but I think I'll end up with a Hero 3 Silver at the £200 mark. A mate has leant me his Hero 3 for the weekend this week so I'll give it a whirl.
Comparing the gopro battery life to the claimed drift ghost 3 hours its swaying towards the ghost. I think the remote wrist band is a great idea for the ghost, does the gopro have such? I have been having a nosey at the sony too but again, no wrist remote? How do you find the branston compared to heinz? I prefer the branston and they are a little cheaper too.
Any of you guys got any youtube footage on your camera's so i can have a butchers please? As Andy says, £300 is a big hit in the wallet and I am unsure as to how much better a gopro3 black or a drift ghost would actually be over the previous models. I have a 50" 1080p tv and wondered, when burning your footage to a dvd via a standard pc burner, would i lose the 1080p quality anyway? If so, it would be pointless in spending the extra £100 etc on a better quality camera. Can anyone explain for me please?
Go pro does have a remote that you can wear on your wrist. It is extra. I bought one of mine in the USA. So much cheaper if you know anyone who is going over there.
Here's a short film I did at Anglesey last Saturday (I know it says May '11) I had to drop the resolution down to get it on youtube but it still looks OK. The original is much better though. My camera is a GoPro HD (1080) but it's not the latest generation. Anglesey May '11 v10 - YouTube
Really liking that Sony one! I just had a quick scan on eBay... Best I've found is:- GoPro Hero 3 Silver £199.99 Sony AS-15 £185.99 Both packages compare equally in that they both have the minimum of mounts and no suction cup or memory card but do include the waterproof cases. Hero 2 Motorsports are still up at the £300 mark. You can get the suction cup for c£25 and a card for £10-£20 making the Hero 3 say £230 "on the road". If you even need a suction cup that is. I guess the Sony would work out about £20 less all in. I'll test out my mate's Hero 3 to see if it's a goer and then make my mind up. One question that keeps niggling me - if you use the adhesive mounts, do they ruin the paint? Are they easy to get back off again and remove the glue residue etc.? Has anyone mounted a camera to the fork leg, and if so how did you do it?
I bought the suction mount pictured in my image above for 6 quid from a uk seller. some review sites slate some cameras for the lack of supplied options. but there is a myriad of cheap options avalable. I can vouch for the sony. i have an android phone and it works fine. can change the camera settings easy and also use the screen realtime to position it perfect when setting up. once video is taken. you can review it over the phone then upload it or delete it etc... the sony comes with the case waterproof to nearly 200 feet and if it gets broken a new one is 30 quid
As if by magic, same track, same day. but not scaled down Anglesey Trackday 06/04/13 - YouTube watch in 720 (Setting r4=960p 30fps)
I read that comparison link - really useful. The Drift Ghost looks to be the best bet, but it's around the £300 mark which is too much for me I think. The GoPro 3 for £200 is a hell of a deal as they seem to sell for good money second hand so if I don't use it / don't like it, I guess I can just flog it on eBay and get most of the money back. I do really like that Sony though... Decisions, decisions.
Drift ghost for me. Really wanted a hero3, but read to many horror stories about aftersales service if/when they go wrong. Only prob with the drift is you need to spend more to get the suction mount etc. the remote is very handy IMOIMO
It is one of the best parts of it imho. It turns the camera into something VERY user friendly when it comes to turning it recording on/off/capturing a quick photo etc. The at-a-glance colour LED to tell you what mode you're in is invaluable - even if you're wearing gloves (like when biking/skiing) or through goggles/tinted visor. That it is included in the £270 for the Ghost makes the overall package good VFM. The [expensive] GoPro remote is an extra, and it still requires you to inspect the LCD closely to figure out what's going on. Without a user friendly remote, all of the cameras are fiddly to operate - especially when wearing gloves. And if it is hard to use, it isn't going to get used IME.
