I’ve recently discovered that my scamming scumbag insurance company (yes, MCE, I’m talking to you) have moved the goalposts and now my breakdown cover doesn’t cover me at home. I’ve got 3 bikes (one regularly used on track) and a car, some of which may be sold or replaced soon, plus my boy has just started riding a moped so I’d want some sort of personal/family cover rather than something specific to a vehicle. I’ve looked online and there’s the usual bewildering array of options, none of which seem to really suit my needs and it feels like it will take all day (which I don’t have) to wade through them all. Any ideas? Thanks
Not their biggest fan but probably AA. They do roadside assistance, home start and relay which gets you and vehicle/passengers back to home or workshop. Their price to a new member will be pretty good but you have to fight every year fir a realistic renewal premium. Currently with RAC as AA pissed me off at renewal time but will go back to them as a new member and cheaper deal that goes with it. They also cover you for any vehicle you are a passenger in even if the driver is not a member.
Thanks. Trouble is that none of the info on the sites is at all clear whether the cover includes when I’m riding the bike. It looks like I’m going to have to grit my teeth, gird my loins and bite the bullet by calling one of these companies, only to spend 20 minutes on hold and then speaking to a bored minimum wage call centre droid, just to be told they don’t offer the service I want. Which is exactly what happened when I spoke to MCE yesterday.
Always rated green flag, although I can't attest to your level of cover. They cover me and my vehicles no matter the driver (so my wife is covered). I use the app too, so I can request the pickup and monitor their progress in getting to me too. Bike wise, they sub out to SOS motorcycles and I've always found them to get the job done. I get that cover through my advantage gold account at NatWest.
It is where I live as it’s quite hilly! Also, MCE now won’t cover you if you break down within 2 miles of your home, which is about as much use as a chocolate fireguard. Just spoke to the AA. If the bike already has a problem they want to charge me £200!
Thanks for that. I’ll give them a call. Re: SOS - I agree. They’ve always been very reliable and careful loading and unloading bikes Edit: Green Flag have already pissed me off within seconds of hitting their website. It won’t let me proceed until I enter my reg number as it turns out that I need to enter details for each of my vehicles. FTN. I change bikes like I change my socks, so that’s not going to work for me unfortunately.
Used them twice, 2007 on 1 day old 1098 and again in 2009 on my 998, both times bike was recovered to my home.
Green Flag are definitely not for me Just read this, “As long as it’s less than 16 years old....we’ll be there to fix it for you”. How very fkn generous of you! Leaving aside the fact that that sounds like Jimmy Saville's mission statement, my car and two of my bikes are older than that. I knew this would end up swallowing my day whole
We use RAC family cover which covers the people named in or on whatever vehicle they are using from a moped up to a 3.5t van. Cheap to start with them and then haggle hard on renewal .
Just in their site now actually and they’re looking like the favourites. Just checking they don’t have any ridiculous restrictions or traps and tripwires in their policy.
Nationwide Flex Account has breakdown cover. £13 a month. I believe it covers motorcycles and vans. https://www.nationwide.co.uk/-/medi...lexplus/flexplus-breakdown-insurance-IPID.pdf
Been with the AA for many years...4 Ducati's and an Alfa Romeo so they have been called on many times both at home and out and about. Since I'm a Gold Member (ooooh!) they also cover my daughter's heap for "free" so overall happy with them.
