1200 Enduro Clunky Gearbox

  1. The clutch would have nothing to do with it, this clutch is the same as any other. Every gearbox has "straight cut gears" and has zero effect on shifting

  2. Agreed. Far more likely to be due to the design of the internal selector mechanism.

  3. Found out it gets sweeter with use. Now at 25000 km
     
  4. That's good news, I'll keep using it, mine's only on 16000km!

    I'm prepared to accept it's a clunky box, my concern was it was faulty as my warranty from the seller runs out once I've done 1600km on it.
     
  5. I found the answer to the problem, earplugs. I keep forgetting to put them in ...

    Did a 2 hour ride yesterday, just for testing purposes and to get out on a nice day in Yorkshire, all good apart from one false neutral when it was supposed to be in 5th gear. Much better with the ear plugs in!
     
  6. Have Leeds Ducati changed the oil at all?

    I did my own service and used the Shell Advance15-50 Ultra and the bike ran great.

    I then had the bike serviced by Leeds and they used Motul 300V.

    The box now feels very notchy and not smooth as it did previously. Not impressed at all. If it wasn't for the cost of buying more oil i would drop it back out. In fact, i may just do it anyway for the sake of £50.
     
  7. Thanks for that, very interesting. I didn't buy it at Duc Leeds, got it at a non-Duc dealer near York. They 'serviced' it and stamped the book, and scribbled on it that fluids had been changed but I'm not convinced.

    They have Motul on display in the shop so I have to assume that's what's in it (if they changed it). I did buy a load of the Shell stuff intending to change it but haven't yet ... might do so ...
     
  8. Would that be Optimum bikes by any chance. If so there mechanic worked for Ducati for 15 years & is supposed to be pretty good.
     
  9. Yes Optimum. Can't fault the Duc trained mechanic guy at all, and customer service seems to be great. Just have my doubts as to how thorough the bike service was.
     
  10. Changed oil to the Shell stuff that Ducati recommend. Pretty certain from the oil I took out that it had been changed in the service so that's all good.

    Anyway, took it for a blat this morning and it does seem smoother and less clunky. It may be I'm just getting used to it, or want to think I've made a difference but who knows.
