Panigale - bodywork removal

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Freak, Apr 10, 2013.

  1. Evening, I'm about to fit the trackday kit to my new Panigale, however as the bikes new I haven't had the bodywork off yet but I've already seen how bloody difficult it is to work on compared to previous models.

Does anyone have a step by step guide on what to remove, in what order plus anything to be aware of, tips etc.

    ta!

  2. Loosen all screws possible and you ll see where it jams ..that s what ill do .. :)

  3. You still on with this? :)

  4. Not started yet, probably won't be until next week, screen arrived today so no excuses now

  5. Desmo Dave found it 'interesting' compared to his 1198 sp and now allocates a day I think to change bodywork! So take your time...

  6. Bloody nightmare to get the upper panels off under the tank, just go easy or you will break the tabs off.

  7. A Day!! Mines off in 10 mins

  8. Tart!

  9. Need a hand?

  10. Just witnessed full strip with all lights, headframe and dash and stock termi fully removed in 1:15 hours

  12. It's fiddly rather than difficult. As said above take your time. There aren't that many screws etc. but there's some hidden "tangs" on the upper fairings that can be damaged.
Take your time first attempt. Once you know where all the tabs are you'll sort it no time.

You won't need a hammer but the tape might come in useful

  13. I'm sure he does it in an hour now ;)

  14. This YouTube clip is reasonable it focuses on the nose cone fairing which is best removed if you are changing your screen.

The 2 push pins he mentions are a bit weird, best ease them off with a flat blade screwdriver. They are similar to fasteners used to fit door linings in cars. Also the plastic "lug" that fits in the rubber grommet holding the front of the fairing nose down on the headlights can be a bit tricky and need a bit of force to pull it out of the grommet - just be careful but brave ! You'll see what I mean when you do it.

Here's other clips that show how to remove the plastic top covers once you have removed the ignition key guard. As Nelly says be careful with the little letter box slots and the lugs on the covers and the side fairing when removing and refitting.

good luck and oh if you want to save a bit of time putting it all back together make a note of which type of fastener went where. There are about 6 or more different ones. Trail and error and a bad memory don't help much

  15. from what is saw happening in the blitz :

keycover first, then side fairings. pull keycover outward and backward. it wil disengage ans once this is done, side fairing will come off.
If theye are carbon, take double care , they break instead of bend!

    it is fiddly indeed..

  16. God if it's that much hassle stick straight bars on it and streetfighter it.
Is the fairing now becoming part of the stressed member or are the owners becoming stressed members.

  17. Ducati

download the parts manual its got some good diagrams that might help. You might need it as well if you misplace some of the fasteners and need to order more :upyeah:
