Hi all, Anyone had this experience? From looking at various forums it is reasonably commonplace. Any assistance/experience pointers appreciated. Bike serviced less than 30 miles/ 1 month ago, new cambelts etc. rode with no issues once since. Went to go out this weekend, started on the button, then while I was getting jacket/helmet on died and won't start since. Cranks over fine. The pump is not priming so I am 90% certain it is that I have checked - Battery- OK Replaced both relays under the seat (Fuel and Ecu?) with new Checked all fuses Have squirted some flammable down the intake and the bike roared into life I am getting a blip of 12V at the pump connector plug positive under the tank as the ignition goes on and then 11.5 -12.v circa as it is cranking with no action from the pump. I have seen several videos regarding the connections failing under the epoxy in the flange - I suspect it is there, will confirm once i've emptied the tank and carried out continuity tests with the flange out. Ducati want £ 790.34 for a complete new unit - This will mean my kids get no christmas presents so not an option!! Apparently a fix in the form of part number 51020032A which is the loom including the aluminium pot with the epoxy connectors which is fitted via a circlip and sealed with an o-ring , from an ST2 is available, but there is some debate as the ST2 has 3 wires and the monster has 4 wires (an additional earth) so this fix would include having to modify, which given where it is I don't want to be doing. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated - bike has done about 10.5K miles total so son't want to be spending £1K on fixing a fuel issue a month after spending £ 650 on service, cambelts, rear brake cylinder and a new rear tyre Suggestions please.

Hi Paul, Thanks for the welcome - not sure what you mean by introduce myself - do I have to stand up in front of everybody like at the AA meetings? I guess what you mean tis name, bike, roughly where from so here it is: Will - Monster 695 (2008) - Kent (Although from the name you could have guessed that.....lol) Since writing my original post I have been in touch with Stu at Exact and he has been very helpful..... Going to remove the tank and have a shufty this weekend - Aftermarket pumps and fitting kit on Ebay around £ 30, Uprated Flange o-ring (as its coming off might as well get new one) £ 24, and the replacement epoxied pot wiring harness from Exact at around £ 90 (if it is indeed required) - and I am hoping that I will have a fully functioning 695 (weather permitting) this weekend. Unsure about the Troll comment - was that directed at me?
you must be really glad you found us Kentgent!* . I think there's a good chance that you identified the problem in your first post, and if it is this, then there's no easy (or cheap) cure other than a D.I.Y. fix (several videos on YouTube) alternatively you could take a chance on a secondhand assy, but are rarely that cheap and could be a total waste of money. Have had the same on an early Multistrada. Hi Chris....(Hang on, is your name really Chris or is it a Forum thing that we have to go by other names.? .....) Yes, am glad to be here - hopefully as you say the diagnosis is there or thereabouts......someone just suggested battery, but its about 1 month old and Optimiser is showing it as in good order, and the with the fuel pump not priming and everything else electrical - fuses, relays etc) checked and the motor cranking over.....and the fact it does fire when I squirt flammable stuff into the intakes......kind of makes me think its the pump too - here's hoping. Thanks Chris, but the Ebay link is for a 796 with an oval flange. Mines a 695 with a round flange....there! I said flange twice too - three if you count the last one Thanks everyone for the warm welcome !
I am not familiar with the design of the fuel pump on the this model. I had a similar problem on a moto guzzi, the culprit was a flexible pipe inside the tank had come adrift. This was betweeen the pump and filter, this was replaced with petrol immersable pipe. And secured with new hose clips. No further problems after this. The other point to note is when removing the tank, don't just lift it off. Check the fuel pump connection and release, or you will trash the connector.
Thanks Hyper, but as I am getting a feed to the pump connector outside the tank when its supposed to be priming and again when its cranking with no action at all from the pump i suspect its either the pump itself or the wiring between the connector and the pump at the epoxy joint. All fuses, relays etc checked. I have previously removed the pump/flange unit a couple of years back to replace the standard Ducati O-ring with the uprated X ring version as the standard O-ring is another known failure which needs to be upgraded on the plastic tank monsters..... so familiar with tank removal etc. but thank you for the heads up. Just received the new pump and filter (1 day!) - weather permitting will try tomorrow/Monday and it could still be the harness at the epoxy joint which is apparently a known common failure/factory issue on this. Cost so far £ 66 including X ring - a little better than Ducati's £ 790 for the " We only sell the complete unit"......Even with the harness on top if required, total cost should be £ 150 - assuming I have the diagnosis right of course! lol
