Advice on 748R clutch setup please. Help needed. (original post edited as thread moved from wanted section to technical help)
Doesn't the 748R have a slipper as standard? I'm not sure myself. If so the preasure plates are different. Steve
Errr. Dunno. I will have to check. I spoke to a Ducati dealer today and he did not say I needed anything different.
Looks like the R has a basic slipper clutch (cant say ive noticed riding it from memory). The part number for the OE pressure plate is different for the R to the base models. Steve, you are a good man, saved me a costly error, IOU a beer. I will call up the dealer Monday for a bit more advice before updating the thread.
You can get lots of different caps (£15 and up) in various colours on ebay, aswell as new stainless springs (£15).
Currently at Brands for the weekend but I’m sure I have a 749RS pressure plate, just need to locate it in the spares room. Andy
The Ducabike pressure plate PSF03 might work - it says suitable for all Ducati dry clutches whilst the PSF02 specifically excludes slipper clutches. Another potential option that I will check out (they also do the springs/caps in the colours I want).
The 748R pressure plate mating surface is flat, the non slipper has castellations that locate in the clutch centre. 1 plate cannot do both. Andy
@Android853sp and @Birdie Had the fairings off this morning so whipped the clutch cover off and the pictures below clearly show castellated pressure plate (unless I am not understanding what you are saying Andy). The clutch was replaced by Baines in 2017, using the following 748R 02 parts: 19020101A - Clutch Disc Assembly 19810032C - Clutch Basket Both of these parts are correct for the R version, the other versions have different parts numbers for the corresponding part. I am now very confused - can you throw any light on this at all?
You won’t be able to check properly whether the bike have a slipper clutch or not unless you take the clutch apart. Your bike’s clutch basket is vented and lightened though so may well have!
I have put the pressure plate back on but looking at the photo, isn't the rusty flower shaped item under the nut the anti skipping spring?
