Constitutionally it would prove what was said from day one after it was announced a vote would take part.

Based on the eu's history, if the British people voted in a way the eu didn't like, they would find a way for another vote to happen and they certainly are and have been manipulating procedures that way since 2016

They have done it multiple times to other countries before

 

At least it would put an end to it.
