1200 Screen Advice Needed

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by SP4S, Oct 26, 2019.

  1. Hi all
I picked up my 2011 multi S yesterday, with a 110 mile journey back home.
The wind buffeting and noise was unbearable. As usual I was wearing ear plugs which are very effect on all other bikes. But on the multi it was another story. It has the standard screen fitted.
My riding is combination of town and motorway. But I can’t live with this much buffeting.
Any advice as to which screen to fit/solutions greatly appreciated.

  2. MRA Xcreen

  3. What height are you?

Try no screen and see what happens. If better try the Puig racing screen

If just as bad then try Puig touring screen - that fixed my problem along with helmet change away from Shoei to Arai Debut. I’m 5’ 8” and this combination totally transformed the experience.

A lot of people seem to like the MRA X

  4. I agree with the above post. Try riding without one, you’ll be surprised. Then try the Puig. Mines a cut down Puig, but don't know which one ‘cos someone gave it to me.

  6. I have an MRA X and it is an improvement on the standard , BUT nowhere as good as the Madstad I have on my Tiger 800. The issue with the 950 is that you can add height but there are no options to add width and the side buffeting caused by the narrow screen. The winglets on the Madstad are a great addition that cut the side buffeting you get on a 950.
BUT, on the good side, I noticed that the side buffeting is hitting my body almost exactly where my jacket vents are so hopefully offer some good "cooling" when in warmer climates...

  7. Thanks for the advice guys. I’m 5’8, and having come from a GS which was sublime in terms of protection the Multi is a bit of a shock.
In terms of helmet it’s a Shoei Neotech. I need this to receive work calls, maybe not the quietest of helmets but needs must.

I fitted this as I couldn’t stand the buffering at speed. It worked a treat.
It’s a simple enough problem to resolve and seemingly noticed by many multi riders.
My screen was fixed to a metal carrier that was adjustable ( up and down) but more importantly stood off the fairing by about 25mm.

  9. The smallest screens work best
Actually the pikes peak carbon screen is fantastic but pricey
You will never be wind free but buffeting is reduced with smaller units

  10. I have a Puig touring with wind deflector and screen spacers and it works really well for motorway miles. I also cut a standard one down and sprayed it black, which I have on when not touring. I'm 5.10".

It was horrendous before I got these screens and pretty much unrideable.

I also have custom made ear plugs and wear a thick neck buff to keep the wind from getting under the neck skirt of the helmet.

    Problem solved.

  11. Hi mate.
where can I get a metal carrier?

  12. Tell me more about the screen spacers. Link to screen would be good.
I agree. At the moment it’s unrideable. Might have to go back to a GS.

  13. It’s a shame Ducati hadn’t spotted this flaw during its development, and made the changes themselves.
Still it keeps us enthusiasts busy!

  14. That’s a very good question, mine came with the bike and had no visible markings.

  15. Now that’s just reactionary talk!

  16. Just done a tour to Portugal, mostly back roads and sweepers with the regular motorway schlep getting to and from the port in the UK. I've got to say that the spacers from @Jamie Clare work for me on my 1260MTS with the OEM screen. There's no buffeting to speak of and I can hear sat nav instructions nice a clearly at speed.

I do still get a draft on my torso/tummy and am pretty convinced that it's, as said above, down to the narrowness of the lower portion of the screen. I can live with that and have a draft stopper Halversons undergarment that helps with this, I do notice that's the bit of me that gets coldest when the temperatures are low.

  17. Finding the sweet spot to suit you is a bit trial and error I’m afraid, most seem to prefer a smaller screen, I have a Pikes Peak and it’s better than the standard screen for me, also fitted with screen spacers from Jamie Clare on this forum made it a bit better to. Also wear custom ear plugs and it’s just about bearable now, using a Neotec 2

  18. Thanks for all the advice chaps, greatly appreciated. Firstly, good to know im not the only one suffering from extreme buffeting, i suppose body size/height, crash helmet type too will result in different levels of air flow.
I think the best route would be try the cheapest option first and try a clip-on screen deflector and screen spacers.
