There may be enough votes without either if it comes to it. " No 10 could pull election bill The government will pull the election bill if it’s amended to extend the franchise to include 16-year-olds and EU Citizens, No 10 says. A spokesman said a vote to change the franchise would create a six-month delay. The spokesman said: “Nothing would sum up how broken this parliament is if after them all standing up there and saying they want a general election – they vote for an amendment which is deliberately designed to actually prevent the delivery of a general election before 2020.”
From SKY site. SNP's Ian Blackford says it's an "absolute disgrace" that EU citizens living in the UK cannot vote in a general election. Why is it a disgrace ?
Possibly because he feels the EU citizens who have moved to the UK permenantly and therefore being eligable to vote have not had the structure put in place in a simple & timely fashion by the government?
I have nothing against it, I just would have thought if you move to a new country and want to be able to vote etc you would apply to be a citizen of that country, is that not how it works generally ?
