No, your assumptions wrong. Not my turn to cry, just retired thanks so they won't be hitting me. Just simple economics portboy; you need to generate a good tax revenue, keep unemployment low, growth healthy, to pay for all the NHS/Prisons/Police/Schools, etc. McDonnell would raise less tax despite higher income and corporation taxes, drive companies away, raise unemployment, raise the welfare costs and massively increase the national debt. May suit you but not me! I have a low opinion of most politicians irrespective of party, but you have to vote for a party that will do the best job for the UK.

Actually TB it's a proven and recognised problem with raising the higher tax rate. Also happened with Stamp duty increases, as the 10% rate on properties over £935k has slowed the market and there is now less tax raised: In 2010 the marginal rate of income tax on incomes above £150,000 was increased from 40% to 50%. It was then cut to 45% in 2013, after HMRC had estimated that the 50% rate would probably raise no more than a 45% rate, due to the extent to which they estimate that affected individuals responded to the higher rate by reducing their taxable income. There are a number of debatable assumptions in the methodology used by HMRC to produce those estimates. I have thought this, does it work as long as neither Tories or Labour are in power too long. Then, is the answer a change from Tory / Labour to a party that would ‘work’ longer term (is there such a party ?). Or, does it really matter who is in power ?
I don't have any reviews to refer to but if you cut the taxes for the higher earners then their lost revenue has to be replaced somehow. Usually transferred onto the lower earners or to cuts in services (NHS, Police, Armed forces, or sales of national assets or increase in National Debt) I think we have seen all of those from this last government. Tax avoidance is already in full swing for a good number of Civil Servants, BBC staff, C List (Corryy St) celebs all becoming overseas companies and taking free loans back as income, but without the income tax, not to mention corporations like the Amazons and Facebooks. It isn't even as if those that get most benefit from the tax cuts have some kind of contribution balance e.g means testing NHS health care or pensions. I note that your against tax increases that Labour might introduce, but, I saw an interview with Nigel Lawson who was proposing a sales / revenue tax on the Amazons and Facebooks of this world to stop the absolute piss take from them when it comes to paying taxes. So, tax increases might not be the domain of Labour only. For the record I fucking hate the likes of Blair, Corbin, and especially Abbot equally as much as Thactherism and BoJo, so where to put a vote is a bit of conundrum for me. However, I do feel that there should be more contribution to community than there is right now. TB

I am against the tax increases as they just don't work. But the time isn't right for tax reductions unless it's to corporation tax to make the UK even more business friendly after Brexit. I believe the Tories have correctly backtracked on the income tax cuts. I don't think we should judge the present Tory team on the previously inept performance under May. Just as we should not expect the present Momentum driven Labour team to be anything remotely like the last Labour governments. They are pledging to pump money into infrastructure projects (rail/hospitals, etc) and undo the Police and some other damaging cuts. I have confidence in that team managing the economy positively, to generate the money to fund these policies. Hopefully under careful scrutiny the Labour plans will look as unattractive as an independent Scotland economy.
to be fair the services are only really worse for those outside London. I have 24 hour bus service through the day it’s a bus every 2 minutes tune every 2 minutes 8 trains an hour to London subsidised to the time of £6000 per head excluding the cost of HS1 and crossrail
