Dear forum, I want to remove my gasoline tank from my multistrada. I can see that there are quick release connectors on the tank. My question: will there come fuel from the opening when removing this connector? My tank is full so then I must first drain the fuel out of my tank. Maybe a stupid question but I hate it when there is suddenly fuel everywhere And, is it just pull or must I twist something. Many thanks for your help
Don't worry the fuel will stay in the tank apart from a few drops that will leak out when you separate the connectors. It's better to do these things with an empty or near empty tank though.
I should have said, to release the connectors you squeeze the plastic bits at each side to release it then pull it straight out.
We might add that the black plastic connectors are a bit fragile, so you need to be very careful as you pull them out and later push them back in. Don't snap them off! Also they have O-rings on the spigots to seal in the fuel; it is possible for an O-ring to be pinched or damaged, so you might like to have one or two spares to hand before you start (available from any Ducati dealer).
And it helps if you lightly grease the o-rings with vaseline or similar before fitting the connector. It makes them less likely to get pinched.
Well guys, the fuel lines came off smoothly. Thanks for the help The final goal is to remove the injectors for a ultrasone threatment. So, now I must remove the airbox. I followed the manual but the airbox seems to be stuck. The manual says slide the airbox? Is there a special way to get it lose?
Sorry I can't help you. I've had an MTS airbox out once, about 5 years ago and all I remember was that it was a pig of a job.
