British Indy: What Happens Now?

?
  1. Full Brexit with "no EU deal" on the 29th March.

  2. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a general election and new negotiations.

  3. Request Extension to article 50 to allow cross party talks and a new deal to be put to EU.

  4. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a second referendum on 1. Remain in EU or 2. Full Brexit.

  5. Table a motion in parliament to Remain in EU WITHOUT a referendum.

  6. I don't know or I don't care anymore

Results are only viewable after voting.
  1. It would reduce it to a second referendum with MPs committed to delivering that result, rather than “interpreting” what the people should have wanted a la Anna Soubrey.

  2. Sort of.

A second referendum is an unequivocal denial of democracy. There is no other logical description or explanation for it. It tells everyone something about how the political class views the electorate in no uncertain terms.

A GE that is predicated upon the principle that people are able to vote for a Party that will either respect the democratic decision of 2016, or ignore it, is a political reality. It's no different , in principle, to voting out a government that fails to meet its manifesto promises (although the stakes are clearly higher than normal wrt Brexit).
The really dangerous aspect of recent events was when a zombie Parliament refused to offer itself up to a GE. That was a deeply worrying time. And it achieved its nefarious goal, too.

However, a skim-level headline interpretation of the next GE could easily be "A further Brexit Referendum".

  3. Not sure about committed to deliver the result, for a start surely Corbyn can’t be expected to deliver everything he is promising and same with the others, they aren’t forced to do what they said in an election campaign / manifesto.

  4. Some of the parties seem clear as to what they intend. Others less so.
The peoples should get what they vote for, which will only get more complicated if there is another hung Parliament!

    Interesting times indded!

  5. With no guarantee they will do what they say

  6. The reality is, no useful terms of reference would have been allowed in a further referendum.

The Public, having chosen Leave, could arguably be given the choice of Leave (WTO) or faux-Leave (Deal). Then it is up to the Public to be bright enough to recognise that faux-Leave is merely delayed-Remain - a calculation I am convinced is beyond the ability of most voters.
This kind of Ref would not have been offered, as the Establishment could not risk the public choosing WTO Brexit. They gambled in 2016 and lost so they won't make that same mistake.

A preferred option for the Establishment for a further Ref would have been faux-Brexit (delayed-Remain) and Remain but the Establishment couldn't take the risk that the electorate might actually smell a rat.

So the Establishment will do what it does best - kick the can down the road and hope they can outlast the bastards (ie the electorate).

  7. Agree people should get what they vote for, not sure they will (or ever have really).

  8. You are being too kind to the establishment, I think they don’t care what ordinary folk think.
Bet they regret having the referendum now

  9. Only the Remain side of parliament.

  10. You misunderstand me.

The establishment don't care about our feelings, they care about what happens if enough folks become disobedient.

If civil disobedience begins to spiral out of control, there will be things happening that cannot be undone. The Establishment wants a peaceful transition to the NWO, so softly, softly is the preferred approach.

  11. Wait for it, wait for it.......we are going to get Corbyn as PM, closely followed by McDonnell......

  12. Not listening to you.

You might have warned us that we wouldn't be leaving the EU ...

  13. That is Parliament

  14. It is quite fun, seeing how they plan to remain without upsetting too many people. :)

  16. After eleven years the nTories haven't delivered on any of their major manifesto promises
    Reduce Immigration
    Balance the Books
    Law & Order
    Leave the EU

True, they have introduced their promised Universal Credit at cost of £2billion plus, but it doesn't work so its hard to count that as a fullfilled pledge.

Yet you complain Corbyn doesn't do anything.

  17. Actually I said ‘ for a start’ and ‘the others are just as bad’ :punch:o_O, Tories probably more so, they have form.

  18. How do you know Corbyn won't deliver? He may or may not but as he has yet to get a proper job you really can't say.

At worst Corbyn could fail on every promise and be as bad as the Tories have proved themselves to be.

  19. I don’t.

Do you think it’s worth a shot ?
