  1. Prob xr or a xl something like that. Cr are 2 stokes.

  2. Pretty sure it’s a cr250...think an L model?? It’s the starter enduro, not fire breathing enduro or mx (which I think are crf)

bought mine for 1500. Used for a year. Sold for pretty much the same

  5. A CR250 may be a little too new and not in the budget.

Also, I was in my teens in the 70s (DOB 1960) and have a yearning for something I didn’t have when I was a yooof. Probably trying to relive my yooof before I die. I always had a yearning for an XT500 but that’s out of my budget for something I’ll probably trash.

  6. How about a Katoom 400 exc early model, fvckin awesome bit of kit, does require regular maintenance if you want reliability.

  7. just looked on ebay at xt's as a result of this thread... there is a nice one for 10k.... lol...
i had an 82? (i think it was, last of the steal tank) xt250.. fantastic bike but it was 1989 when i bought it and my mates were on new rm's and the like so i was a tad slower and lower in the motox stuff...

  9. They can be a total bastard to start aswell. Though I've heard their front sprockets are fairly loose so y' know, swings & roundabouts!

  12. Aye, there’s a couple for sale over here at the moment c3k which is kinda on the cheap side so I would expect some work. There was one was sold in an H&H auction at the weekend for sub 1k but needed putting back together again although the parts were allegedly all there. Fully refurbished ones though go for big money these days.
I remember reading about that all those years ago. Kick start only, 500cc single, you needed an elephant to kick it over. I believe they had a decompression valve fitted in the head.

As for the sprocket, I am specifically looking for one that does not have a front sprocket fitted, especially as its likely to be 20+ years old. Been there done that . But then again ..... it is winter and you lot need entertaining :):)

  13. Most big singles have a decompression valve, even my 250 honda has one, it's automatic, connected to the kick start.
