What Green Lane Bike Would You Suggest?

  1. I bought an old xr250r for about £1k.
It`s a bit rough but it`s not a bad little bike. It lacks a bit of grunt on the fast stuff and the suspension is a bit agricultural compared to more modern stuff, but I keep up no problem.
The bike has had a couple of issues but on the whole,it`s pretty much bullet proof.

  2. Do not buy a Gas Gas 300, single two stroke with a absolutely direct linkage between degrees open of the throttle and skyward movement of the front wheel. Also an absolute bastard to kick start after you have looped it on a 45 degree incline. Do not ask me how I know. My mate sent a search party out onto the trail after I spent 45 mins wrestling with it, eventually giving best and sliding down a 60 ft slope and covered head to foot in 3" wet clay. Eventually completely exhausted I rode it back - very gently.
    Also parts very expensive.

  3. Not this one, my KTM450-exc Factory Edition...

As others said & really depends on use and budget. I'd agree with the XT, XR, DR's if you can get a good one.

  5. I thought Dildo's Fatboy option was most suitable - no chains or sprockets top worry about

  6. Get used to doing this :joy: by the end of the day, you will wish you had a 125 2 stroke

  8. Something like a 4 stroke 6 days

  9. Which is why I bought this as a rusty piece of sh*te and spent time and too much money getting it to this

Its mot'd and just wants the decals putting on & a new headlamp to finish it (arriving any day).

Did I mention don't buy anything heavy? LOL.

  10. Be careful...I stopped doing track days and riding on the road since I got the "enduro" bug :):)

Go for a 250 (2t or 4t)...450 are handfull unless are used on fast/open roads or motocross tracks (very agressive throttle & power delivery = not your best friend when trying to find grip in muddy puddles)
My first greenlaner was a DRZ400 purchased for £2500 sold for £2300 after 2 years.
Brilliant bike for greenlanes but cannot even compare to a modern enduro on "difficult" terrain.
Lifting up the DRZ400 10 times a day draines a lot of energy.
IMHO a WR250f is a very good compromise between a full race enduro bike and the "old" girls...but migth struggle to fit one in your budget.
EDITED: Crf250L Honda might be a good option as well. (crf250 are full race bikes..with quite short servicing intervals)

  15. WCP, one tip try and get one with electric start and a kickstart. Had a TTR 250 e start only and battery went flat, you want to try bump starting a 4t in a muddy field, kept my mates entertained for hours. Threatened to leave the bloody behind in the end.
Oh,.....another tip, get one with disc brakes not drum.
