Yes, each country will have it's own needs specific to that country and so will vote for what is important to that country and, to them come election time so would you declare the eu as a pr government under that claim^
i think i have more in comon with the small busness owner, mechanic, parent, biker, rural home owner, outdoor type in rEU, than i do the city worker from essex. in the UK the city dweller with only 30odd % rules the roost. more so. mostly because of something called a, Veto.
Finm has it spot on. The Scottish PR system is designed to prevent a majority government. That the SNP have managed it twice, albeit with a lesser majority in 2017, speaks volumes.
works as intended. the Bain principle now adopted by all the uk parties does make it harder. but, while i dont go with the greens on much, they do bring a bit maturity to the parliment the other three cant. for reasons.
I just meant if the idea of a PR system is to avoid a majority of one party running a country, then it hasn’t worked in Scotland. Does make me wonder about the pros of PR system though, if we ended up with fairly even numbers of all parties nothing would ever get through would it.
That doesn't look like much of a pr system, the veto works at national level, it does not work within the eu parliament of 750 mep's where germany would have 96 votes and say scotland would have 14. Surely 1 country 1 vote or 1 party 1 vote is pr? neither of the two examples, the devolved Scottish government and the eu meet that description
it has only been broken once in 21years . when the people of scotland voted both votes snp when alex salmond promissed a reff. it is true that bussness takes longer with PR but the legislation genneraly works better. and for more people.
and if the country that sent the 14 with a comisioner from the soverign Gov at the top table chose to say, fuck that, then it wouldnt happen.
This is a bit of a bastardised version though is it not fin? this see's 750 meps as a waste of time because ultimately it would come down to the prime minister/leader of the 28 which in the past has been all agree or nothing happens. That however is now changing to what they call a "qualified majority", this means they have dropped the all agree or nothing happens From the eu's own website Last reviewed on 03/09/2019 https://www.consilium.europa.eu/en/council-eu/voting-system/qualified-majority/ This would seem to suggest pr is now a thing of the past in the eu
yip. old news. and all said and done. if we where repetedly outvoted, not likely when you look the criteria required V's what we would be bringing to the EU . then we give the people, (not ask for permission) a reff on how we would like to proceed with the EU.
If you do a little research on the Scottish and English crowns you will find what may happen, for info the Scottish crown is dependent on the people of Scotland agreeing to who the monarch is - whether suitable, or not, for the position. So post an independence act it will be up to the Scottish people whether and who will be monarch
Another referendum for the Scots but this time to stay or leave the eu after having a referendum to enter into it ????? Might be old news for a die hard Scot nat but I doubt for everyone else On the positive side, It'll keep neneh cherry constantly busy
Or in basic English , The snp are going to do "Scotlands got talent" for their next monarch Salmon is a front runner (depending on his court case) as is ewan mcgregor As to the currency, good luck getting an answer with that
