  1. Typical Catarham owners attitude, not everyone can afford a Catarham maybe !? ...totally overpriced in my opinion
     
  2. As nice as they are I certainly wont be putting that kind of money on one, On the residual side of things I bought my old Westfield for £8k and sold it a few years later for £1500 more, I can live with that :)

    Sweeping généralisation alert: Home made specials always end up looking a bit shit to my eyes and tend to be owned by weird beardy losers in sheds. Maybe except that Ultima thing!

Here's my first car build - ended up selling a few plans and kits in the early 90's under the name 'Brat Pack Kit Cars'...got coverage in all the Kit Car Mags of the time and even in Classic Car Magazine :) built in the loft of my council flat, finished in the living room (where I built my Z1 Turbo too)

    12v Car Battery Powered... did about 12mph (4mph legal footpath speed at the time)

  5. to be fair the Ultima is a factory build so not sure if you can really call it a kit car. But it is awesome

    this particular one is a Chevy LS7, around 850kgs and the sky’s the limit in terms of power. Some are well north of a 1000bhp think this ones around 800 or something

  6. Though most ultima’s were home build, I considered one a long time ago.

  8. it’s rather like the Caterham set up mate, you can! But many get the factory to build them, especially the newer models

    they’re great bang for buck, a good spec one second hand is somewhere between 70-90k (again Sky is the limit depending on what it’s got in it)

    not too sad for the fastest road car in the world from 0-100 and back to 0

    taller than i remember.
    i have mot'd AC Cobras. the difference between a factory build and even a realy well built kit job is mamoth.

  13. Boyhood dream to do one. Never had the space, skill or patience to even ty. I'm bad enough with bikes (90% finished GSXR 7450 is anyone interested ;) ) so a car would have no chance of completion!
     
  14. I love the things. This has been my new hobby and passion for the last few years.
    Covin 911 - finished and sold - awful to drive as it had beetle running gear and the worm gear steering. I was going to sort the suspension and steering with Porsche 944/928 bits, but got an offer i couldn't refuse

    in the garage currently:
    Ferrari 360 Stradale rep built on a Peugeot 406 3.0 V6 - nearly finished and up for sale soon after
    Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4. - I acquired this part finished project with a lot of original parts - the original builder just gave up - as soon as the Peugari goes to paint this is on the ramp
    Lamborghini Countach LP 5000QV - again a part started project - Bespoke chassis with Audi 4.2 V8 engine mated to a Porsche Boxster gearbox - This is the one I'd like to keep, but knowing me I'll sell it as soon as it's finished.

    @jack999s if you're mechanically minded and have the room, get one.
    I get more of a buzz making and building things than actually driving or riding them these days.
    If you're buying a part finished one, be aware you will have to undo some of the previous owners work, as with my part finished ones, there are some bits i'm not happy with.
    I like to build things in a way that is strong and serviceable. The Gallardo rep is built on an MR2 modified chassis and the previous chap has covered all of the power steering, brake fluid pots and hasn't thought about where to put the battery. This is a case of a lot of projects I have seen on forums- washer bottles, fuses, reservoirs, filters all covered and no way to get to them.
    Some of the answers to problems that the kit kit car companies have is a little...well....rough. Be prepared to think for yourself and find your own solutions

    I've got the space and I'm a mechanic so that side of it isn't a problem. What ide like to do is get a half descent one and pull it to bits and tidy up a little while adding a few upgrades even engine swap if need be. I've a few ideas in my head that ide like. That's what I done to my last one. It's defo the 7 type I will be going for. The type of kits your building is a way to much money for me tbh. Just bought a new bike and the house is never ending so 10-11k is as far as I plan to go.maybe a touch more.
    Stick a few photos up if you get a minute mate. Good seen what others are up to in there spare time.

  17. Late 60s I briefly owned a Mini Marcos with a Cooper 1275 S engine and straight cut gearbox.

    It had been used for racing / rallying and wasn't roadworthy, but a few quid here and there sorted it out (left the bucket seats, full harnesses and rollcage in, though).

    It wasn't entirely practical (no room for backseat expeditionary games) so when someone plagued me to sell it, I kept refusing until he came up with a realistic price which gave me a nice profit.
