whats the various partys core message. what partys are aligned to what you beleive to be right. if you are a tory. its public money (often borrowed) in private hands. corbyns labour is public money (often borrowed) in the publics hands. where much of it is returned to the exchequer in the form of tax. if you're a liberal, its talking labour, acting tory.
I was half expecting ‘none of them’. I think if they stopped slagging each other off and told us ‘thickies’ what they plan to do and how in nice simple terms they’d get more response.
we have become a bit more aware of election techniques up here. much of the slagging comes from the constant having to correct whats been printed the day before. think about this Al. the say power corrupts. it's actually more accurate to say, the fear of loosing power that corrupts. many torys beleive they are born to rule.
Its difficult. But google is your friend. Think of a policy of your government and google it. Read several articles and you will get a good idea on what they have really done or achieved as regards that policy. Like all those on my list above. These have all been manifesto policies for eleven years. Now its not fair to say the Tories haven't done anything well. Perhaps they keep secrets really well, which is why no one knows of anything they have achieved! Maybe all these problems were caused by Blair. But I think that any government worth a damn should be able to show how they have resolved some of these critical problems after such a long time in government. If they can't they must be in the wrong job.
The trouble of that is that it is very one sided because the opposition can make as many promises as they wish knowing unless in power, they have not a great deal to worry about. What you can do however and brexit is a good example of this, is check ALL parties and the promises they made on the last, so current manifesto and see what they promised and when given the opportunity, refused to do it.
Hopefully the whole country (countries ?) are more aware, the Eu referendum has made me look harder and ask more questions (of myself too, about what I think is right for the U.K.). I’ve known as few really nice people that changed big time when given power of some sort, and you’re right - it was mainly fear of losing that power.
It's good that after all the scrutiny still 69% of this highly intellectual forum appears to be voting for leave parties - leaving only 31 still blinkered or seemingly misguided Shame 'they' didn't act on the result earlier as history will show they should have done. A slow painful Brexit will take years now after all the stalling, what a missed opportunity that was
Agree but it depends how deep you want to go into political geekery. I'm sure if you wanted to dig deeper into manifestos then look on how parties/mp's actually voted by hansard records, you would find blocks, abstentions, whips enforced etc which would have gone against manifesto promises.
With Opposition parties you can only really check how their MPs voted in the HoC on the governments agenda. Its useful to know that an MP often votes against what you would expect or against stated party ideals. Of course this works for government MPs too. I’m just watching the Conservative party election broadcast..........trying to claim/show BoJo as a “man of the people”............what a bunch of arse! I’ve never seen anything so cringeworthy in all my life!
