Hello Ducatiers. Just wanted to share my experience with a complex fault i had on my Scrambler 800 -2015 with 1.5k miles and FSH. Few months ago, i suddenly developed an ABS error followed by an intermittent speedo, which developed into a fully faulty speedo, showing either 0 or ---. rear speed sensor changed, spacers adjusted, no avail. Checked battery, fuses, all connections and front abs sensor - no avail. Diagnostics didnt specify exact fault. Ducati dealer disconnected abs module and found water ingress on the pins!! They said they have never changed an ABS pump on a Ducati before. Called several UK shops same answer. New ABS pump was £1.8k !! Bought a second hand pump, fitted, bled and hey presto! Apparently i am the only one on record with a shot Scrambler ABS pump!
Interesting. So did you have to change the complete ABS ‘pump’ or just the electrical connector above? Also, by ABS ‘pump’ I presume you mean the diverter valve if that’s the correct terminology. AFAIK ABS works by electronically opening a valve to release the pressure as soon as the sensor detects the wheel has locked. I’m just interested to know for my future reference exactly what you had to change. Do you have a parts diagram? If it happened on a Scrambler it could happen on any other Duc.
i (my indie) changed the whole pump. it comes as the mechanical pump coupled with the ABS electronic module attached to it as one block. it is a straight forward swap. my concern, is that it is unknown to Scramblers to have shot ABS pumps, not sure how the water ingress happened. yes it does live under a cover but it is not used in bad weather (wife's bike). makes me wonder whether the Ducati Low Seat could be a culprit design wise ?
Part 12 on the diagram then? ABS control unit? At least you managed to trace the fault and have now fixed it; useful info and thanks for feeding it back to the Forum. It looks like it sits in some sort of housing to prevent water ingress from below but perhaps once the new one in place it might be worth attempting to cover it from above as well. Perhaps water is running from above and collecting in the housing it sits in
Thanks for the update on this. I can understand now how the symptoms indicated a faulty speed sensor but replacement didn't fix it. I'll be checking mine for water ingress and making sure that it is well sealed before problems arise.
@Nemer Kharroubi it might help other owners who experience this if you start a thread in the Scrambler section and cut and paste links to your original thread on the subject and this one. I don’t even own a Scrambler but (at the risk of being pilloried and called a hipster) I actually quite like them and would consider one in the future
