Seems BoJo has already started to backtrack on his “promises” General election 2019: Boris Johnson pledges cut to National Insurance https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/election-2019-50492998
revisiting the full fact story, most who look would probably recognise the full fact website https://fullfact.org/ As with any search, normally you type in who are......insert the site, then look at who they are and lastly look at their accounts. You can understand why some have hesitancy when one of the better known ones are funded by google, george soro's open society foundation, and the usual candidates as the rowntree charitable trust, Cadbury trust https://fullfact.org/about/funding/
I can guess most people's answers to this. Some don't want the loss of freedom and anonymity that the existence of official IDs represent. Others will say it is an infringement of the person's right to cast their vote unencumbered by limitation and regulation. Perhaps people conflate voting IDs with National IDs. If you only need an official ID to vote, and for no other reason, I would argue that any notional loss of freedom is more than compensated for by the reduction/elimination of voter fraud, which itself deprives you of your rights. You need ID to drive a car, borrow a book from a library, collect your mail from a Post Office, any number of mundane tasks. Why wouldn't you need ID in order to cast a vote, the result of which can have a bearing on how your country is run?
There are some other points to consider. There would be a huge financial cost to providing photo ID to everyone on the country. To use currently official government issued ID's such as passports (76%) and Drivers Licence (74%) would leave out a quarter of voters. Voter fraud according to the government is negligable. In 2018, there were local and Euro elections and no evidence of large-scale electoral fraud. Of the 266 cases that were investigated by the police, one led to a conviction, and two suspects accepted police cautions. In 2017, there was one conviction and eight suspects accepted police cautions. https://www.electoralcommission.org...nd-research/our-research/electoral-fraud-data Is this just another case of crowd paranoia stirred up by the usual suspects?
as said, we all carry some form of ID. why somthing specific for voting? the analysis has been done. right or wrong younger, low payed, people in private rented accomodation, dont want it and are less likely to register.
And not having one is pandering to the tin foil hatters who care more about "me" than "we", then complain we have no "society" like the "good old days", whilst knowing their use of any internet device takes more information from you, than you carrying an id card.
