the Italian 1098r is in fact left hand drive. FACT. but....it appears the irish government in line with the bail out conditions will be driving cars on the left from 2016. lorrys tractors etc will follow suit in 2018.
Ladies and Gents, Many thanks for the comments. I am thrilled with it. The man in the black car behind the bike at Holyhead was relaxing with the window down, until I showed up. The picture captures the fading moments of his displeasure I think. Too right about Irish roads. It would be easier and safer to ride around central Africa. The VRT calculation is €615 for the pleasure of importing it. If the bike was new, the VRT would be €1,500. Count yourselves lucky.... I will replace the tyres and see how we get on from there. Thanks for the extras advice - they are on the cards all right. G
Nice bike, would love one. I have imported a few bikes from UK to France and within the EU if they have less than 4000 miles or 6k klms they are classed as new and you have to pay full VAT.
The VRT rules here state 3000 klms minimum so I will be putting up some more klms before the testing on Monday next, just to be sure! G

Hi Matt, I have been keeping an eye out for a while and saw this advertised on MCN web site. It was Piza (Italy) based which I imagine would put many people off. we spoke on the phone and did a deal. The owner trailered it to Holyhead in Wales and I took the boat. I am still having registration tears though. The Irish Government have decided that, because it has only 1,900 miles and regardless of the fact it is a 2008 bike....Its new! They now want an additional €3,200 VAT (even though it had VAT paid in another EU state at the time of original purchase. I have 30 days to appeal....Bang might go my 'god deal' profit! I will let you know how the Revenue Commission appeal goes. Fingers crossed! G

Bloody hell that is ridiculous! Is it mileage at the time of import? It's a 5 year old bike....I really hope you win the appeal! Best of luck

Unless they have already inspected it in which case its a case of bend over for the nasty man with the long latex gloves.
