Anyone here had the pleasure of dealing with Turkish companies? Are they trustworthy? What are the pitfalls of dealing in Turkey? Any clues and/or advice would be greatly appreciated  Ps - I've done business in a few countries in the EU and with the exception of the Spanish (who couldn't lie straight in bed if they tried) they have all been half decent to deal with.
I worked there for 3years in the 90's and then it was all bureaucracy and paper work. Every bit of paper work had to be be stamped buy someone sat at a desk. The biggest problem our company had then was getting money out of the country. Importation can be very difficult. The only way we could set up a factory was to have a Turkish partner. Inflation in the 90's was bad with a pound worth around 7 million lira, bundles of notes everywhere. Since the I believe it is better as several noughts were removed from currency value a while back. Good luck, they are hard working people though.
I believe their counterfeiting standards are second to none. I've only had dealings with them on a military aspect and my opinion is that I wouldn't trust any of them as far as I could throw them.
Turkey has been a candidate country for accession to the EU since 1999, having been an associate since 1964. The accession has been long delayed, mainly because Turkey still does not really meet European standards. I wonder whether it will eventually go ahead? Or is the Bosphorus a bridge too far?
Haven't been for a long time but I used to travel through regularly, mountains of official paperwork and every one wanted a backhander. ( not a slap ) Steve
its their human rights record which tends to hold it up a bit. I deal with most European countries and they all have their character traits. In my experience the Turks are pretty straight with a nice sence of humour and a desire to get things right.....that's pretty good compared to some nationalities!
I've been working with a Turkish client (very large family run business) for well over 10 years now. They are VERY good and totally honest. They pay invoices in 1 week (via BACS. My UK clients often take up to 6 months !!). They are very professional and dead easy to deal with. I visit often and they are always friendly and (as said already) have a great sense of humour. I wish all my clients were as good as the Turks.
No, not for you................just pointing out that the sh*ttiest, dangerous appliances come from Turkey (allegedly)... AL
Yes and until the Turks get over this hurdle they will not even be able to start negotiating several of the chapters. Turkey has been knocking on the door for nearly 50 years, but I honestly cannot see all 27 (soon 28) member states agreeing to Turkish accession in the next 50 years. If Scots vote for full independence, they may be shocked to find it takes them several years of waiting before they are allowed in.
