848 virgin

  1. No ones clarified this engine braking question for me.

  2. Reckon being the type of engine the new T1 is, very torgey and even sounds like a twin, cold be the affect is more like a twin on the roll off. Imho you notice this much more at speed, either ragging 3 numbers on the road down to sensible speeds in short order, or on track. My blade was ok round town but when you got a lick on, coz it spun up so quickly, I would have to break where on say an SPS I would roll off, change a gear and chuck it in

  3. I'm still yet to take mine out so I'm useless for information at the mo!

  4. I did wonder if it was because it was a cross plane crank engine (its more like a V4 tbh), but when I went from the GSXR1000 to the R1 I didn't notice a difference either. And I used the rag them both around a bit.

  5. Im in the same position as you Blanco , just got myself a nice 848evo and yet to even sit my ass on the bike to see how well she goes !

Got some mixed emotions now , excited and nervous whether im going to enjoy the experience or loathe it ??

If its going to be the latter then i will just have to find a good shop window and say "damn that bike looks f**kin awesome" and all my reservations will be instantly disappear ! lol

My previous bikes have been a gsxr750 & R6 so hey im in dreamland even owning one of these iconic bikes

Come on sun get yer ass out here !!

I'm out in the garage every 5 minutes looking at her and admiring it.Like you say if its not enjoyable to ride at least it looks the boll@cks!!!
Ive spoke to alot of people now and they've said once your used to it you will never look back!,also had some great advice from these guys in the forum.I also keep looking at the mcn reviews on YouTube.
34 years old and feel like a young kid at Christmas!!!!

  8. I am kind of similar in having bought an 1198s in November and ridden it gingerly once
I have had IL4s and ducs are so different
Was out on my 748s yesterday
Its the character and engine braking that you will love
Guess the only tips I would give is take it slowly
Dont lob it down the gearbox into bends at least untilyou are used to the engine braking
Learn to blip as you change down if you dont do this already
Tell your mates to leave a bit of room behind you!
I remember being out with a mate on a fireblade who nearly ran up my arse more than once because of the fierce engine braking and no brake light coming on!
Good luck - sure you will love it

  9. I'm no longer an 848 virgin!!!!!
First ride out tonight, all my doubts and worries went straight out the window,as all you guys described in your replies you were all spot on with the info!!!,much appricated.
i only had one back tyre twitch when I dropped down a gear but I guess I was testing the water if you like, lesson learnt with that one.
Such a buzz riding it and I can't wait till the next ride (maybe tomorrow!).I rolled up into the busy petrol station,I felt like I was lord of the manor when everyone looked round to see what the growl was.
Anyway, thanks to everyone who gave me all the sound advise and info in this thread, its helped loads, much appricated.
    cheers,Blanco:upyeah:

Hopefuly get out for a good few hours at the weekend, maybe across to the coast.
You had much time on yours?

  15. Glad you like them mate.. Not much to be fair.. came back from Birmingham late on it last week.. when I started out in the afternoon it was about ten degrees but the journey back was near enough sub zero.. highsided off a roundabout & only just caught it.. was enough for me to put her to bed till it warms up haha.. closest Ive ever come to binning a bike but totally my own fault.. bring on the summer!!!

  16. Top thread. Picking my 848 up tomorrow after owning a few jap bikes, I've had a v twin before, ktm 990sm lol. I can't wait to get out on the 848 I hope it's as good as you all say its the evo corse SE so I can't wait to try a quick shifter for the first time :)

  17. And I totally agree with the jap bikes feeling like an appliance my last 2 bikes were amazing but lacked character I want something that gets you excited as soon as you open the garage door ;)

  18. The quick shifter is great! Just make sure that you have plenty of space in front of you as you be there quickly!

Also mine struggles a bit from first to second and you have to have the drive train loaded (i.e. accelerating) for is to work well. Also the gear shift is better after the first service.

    Enjoy it!

  19. Wouldn't use it from 1st to 2nd going through neutral is quite long, not very sympathetic to the box:wink:

You'll enjoy it down that runway next weekend:biggrin:

  20. Dementors right about the quick shifter. Best to clutch 1st to 2nd and you need to be either on it with the throttle pinned or mine works well short shifting with no load. If short shifting don't close the throttle just keep constant or it will cough a bit too.

Love mine to bits. Sometimes miss the warp drip of my 04 R1 but love those full throttle gear changes!!!
