Swap my GT1000 for your ....

  1. Hello guys, just a quick intro. Iv been a ducati fan for years and have owned a 848 and now a GT1000 amongst other jap based sports bikes. I live in the north east and love roads bendier the better.

Just going to try and gauge interest as I had my 848 for a few years and sold it for a new zx6 which I found cramped, the wife then decided she didnt want to ride anymore and wanted to become a full time pillion, hence the zx6 going and the arrival of the GT. Shortly after she fell pregnant so couldnt fit into her riding gear so has been out on it maby twice, iv been enjoying it on the odd sunny weekend but not a great amount as unfortunately time to play out is low now. There may be another baby on the way so realistically having a 2 up touring bike is a bit wasted on me and I wouldnt mind something a bit sporty again for the odd hour or so blast out.

My bike is GT1000, red, 2006, about 4k miles and has had all the belts done last year, ideally I would like to stay with the sport classics as I have really enjoyed riding it so was wondering if someone with a 1000 and not getting on with the riding position would be interested in a swap/PX for the more comfy GT?

If not I may consider selling it but finding it hard to judge the current market regarding values.

  3. Hi,
Could you post some pics please so we can see what we're dealing with condition wise? If you sell what sort of price would you hope to achieve roughly roughly, only asking cos I'm after a sport classic myself but have virtually given up trying to find one at a sensible price.........I.e. cheap'ish!!!
    Cheers

  4. XUP have you considered turning your GT into a cafe racer? To get a Sport Classic you will probably have to spend an extra 2-3k so you may as well spend this money on your GT... just a thought :)

  5. Hi guys,
Regarding pictures I work away during the week so will try to get some done this weekend, its hard to judge what sort of price to ask as they do seem to be holding good money atm. The 2 that have just sold via the auction site both looked much rougher than mine and with considerably more miles and they went for 4k+. Mine has a world of carbon hugger and a ducati chrome rack fitted along with the original tyres with loads of tread left. Bad points- it does have some bubbling on the spokes and some paint has flaked off on the front of the engine but from what iv read this is just what they do.

Not sure i would be keen on modifying it as i like things standard and im sure there will be something out there for me. If I cant get anotehr ducati I still have a KTM itch iv been meaning to scratch for a while.

  6. Worth thinking about? Take a look at the Sport Classic section on the Ducati.ms forum, I think you'll find a number of owners in North America have converted their GTs into cafe racers.

Do you have a centre stand on your GT? If you do have one, I'd be interested in it if you convert the GT into a cafe racer.

  7. I'm probably going to let my SC1000 go this year so might have been interested in a swap, but I think the difference in value compared with a GT might be too great. Looking at what they seem to be going for now, I'm hoping to get up to £8k for mine as it is in mint condition, whereas the GT's seem to be £4.5k.

  8. Paul, are you planning to hold on to it over the summer? I may be on a hunt for one around October :)

  9. If you were definitely going to have it I could wait, but if you don't end up buying it I don't really want to have to find another buyer in the winter.

  10. I can't promise anything at the moment. I'm getting married and buying a house in the next 3-4 months... so it all depends on how my finances will look after all those big expenses are out of the way. I just thought that maybe you'll want to keep it for a one more season and then sell.
Anyway... if you still have it in August then we can have a chat. And if you're planning to sell it before then, well I'm pretty sure you'll find another buyer ;)

  11. You really ought to get the bike first, once you're married I'm sure your new wife will find plenty of things to spend the money on!
Ideally I would like to keep it a bit longer and sell at the end of the summer, I'm going to tax it next week and I'll see how I feel after riding it again.

  12. Luckily we agree on most things we want to spend the money on :) Or we disagree and then I still buy it... easier to ask for a forgiveness than a permission right? ;) And I know it will be easier to ask for a forgiveness after buying a house and getting married (hey... you've got the house, I just want the bike and the garage;)
If you will be selling at the end of the summer then the timing may be just right.
