With a foot firmly in the bitsa camp it may be worth understanding that you dont have to look very far down the ducati range to find bitsa all over the factory models...in fact generally the evolution of the ducati range has been a bit of this with a bit of that and hey presto we have a new ducati model that the usual uneducated suckers will buy! Go to some of the supposedly wicked ducati modifications, say a 853 to a 748...what bits do you think that is comprised of? take the 749R ...with a few sparkly bits to homologate for a race series..(rather unsuccessfully) how much of that is the same as the 999 which had an engine the same as a 998, which was the same as a 996R without a few sparkly bits... The factory makes a killing of mixing and matching shelves of parts and calling them new models.. the rear hub on a V4... same as a 1098 1198 era.
There are some stunning bitsas out there, yours included @andyb there are also some proper dogs with fleas .....
That was for sale earlier/last year. Bit expensive but worth a haggle if the servicing is up-to-date (valve clearance every 6K on these) plus, it appears to have Gilles chain adjusters! It's near to me so if anyone would like me to take a look and report back I may be able to do that this weekend (after the rugby...)
last mot was in feb 2017 with 24179 miles recorded .....nothing in 30 months..... great ad...."no offers" and it is listed with make an offer!
Take a look at this blokes feedback!! Feedback is a joy to read and puts a whole new light on sellers!!
Feedback doesn’t look that bad. If bike is straight, all paperwork, and stacks looks a reasonably (for a change!) priced Ducati R
He's a liar and looks can be deceiving. All I'll say is make sure you check everything, everything, I would of bought it myself if it wasn't for my past dealing. I've no time for liars and cheats.
The 2004 749R shares very few parts with a 2004 749/ 999. clocks fuel tank filler seat tail unit mirrors are the same battery box probably radiators wiring loom rearsets side stand are common to the regular bikes. Nothing interesting tank frame wheels forks rear shock rear shock linkage swing arm yokes engine - completely different to the regular 748cc on the regular 749, and 749cc on the 749R calipers bodywork so the interesting components, are all different
you didn't say 999R though, you said 999. the 916 engine isn't full of titanium bits the original 999R had a cast swing arm Was the headstock the same on the 999R as the 749R? 999R had a magnesium headlight bucket Attention to detail Andy, attention to detail!
