1200 Enduro Optimate 3

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Edward Cunliffe, Dec 12, 2019.

  1. I don't need the Canbus version if I'm going straight to the battery on a 1200 Enduro do I?

It's just that there was a Q&A on SportsBikeShop.com that said I would (Q from another Enduro user).

  2. No the Optimate 3 works fine connected straight to the battery

  3. All modern battery chargers with the correct lead will charge, using whatever that bike's version of the Ducati DDA is. All battery chargers with the correct lead will charge through a direct connection to the battery terminals. As far as I was aware, Optimate only include a crocodile clips lead and a direct battery terminal lead in the box. Andy

  4. Thanks guys that's what I thought. I guess you could charge through the little socket on the dash but that would need Canbus version.

  5. Even with a can-bus version it doesn't work through my power sockets. Don't know why. Ended up just putting tail leads straight to the battery. When I do plug it in the power socket the bike keeps switching on and off by itself which I decided to stop immediately.

  6. Good to know, thanks.

  7. @SteveE : if you mean the Hella / Powerlet (mini-cigarette lighter) power sockets, then these are only active when the ignition is switched on, so can't be used to connect a battery charger (at least when the ignition is off and I'm not sure what would happen if you tried it with the ignition is switched on).

  8. That's the thing, couldn't remember what it was called.

  9. But assumed that was what a Canbus charger did, switched the port on somehow?

  10. The bike goes loopy when I plug it in there

  11. Get the charge leads so you don't need to mess about lifing the seat. I use the TM71 leads on both my bikes just depends on the connection type too which you require.

  12. That’s exactly what I’ve done in all my bikes

  13. I'll just extend the wires if I need to. Thought I'd have it coming out under the passenger seat.

  14. I use Optimates with a permanently connected fly lead on my bikes. I use C-Tek Lithium chargers on the 2 bikes with LiPo batteries.

You don't need the Canbus version, you are just keeping a battery charged up, after all. The best thing you'll buy for your bike. :upyeah:
