Took my pani s up for 1st service today and seen the r model beautiful.then got talking to the boss in the shop 9 1/2 grand to change feel its bit much.so I can change body work to r model get all the carbon and termi all fitted to my s model £5200 yes it will still be an s but what do you all think.
Buy the 'R' sticker to replace the terrible 'S' one ! Look, it only revs an extra 500 revs right up the top end and unless you are so wealthy that you are going to mullah your S by thrashing the bejesus out of it constantly, the R isn't any different power-wise that thee or me would ever notice . Of course, the semi nude ally tank IS rather sexy...
Buy the "R" or keep the "S", but don't dress the "S" up to be something it's not, IMHO of course :wink:
9.5k is a lot for a little difference that I would say is noticable to normal riders especially on the road. 5.2k is still mega money on "bits". Personally I would do some tuition and or track days and end up way faster than that money could get you on bits.
If you're anything like me you have to buy what you want. If you dress the S up to look the same, deep down you'll know it isn't, and probably eventually end up buying an R anyway. Then you've not only took a big hit on the S, but would make next to nothing back on the parts. I'd start looking for a nice clean 2nd hand R and bite the bullet. Might be more than £5200, but would be less than £9500 difference.
When I saw the Tricolore S, I knew I had to have one. I know I have lost my shirt buying it, but I remain the happiest of bunnies with my purchase. Had the R been extant at the time, it is fair to say that I would have been sorely tempted. Despite other contributor's opinions, I spent another shed-load of cash on all the silly carbon bits too... nevertheless, when you walk into a purchase driven by the heart and not the head, all such considerations go to one side. I remain in a love affair with the bike, it's faults are only foibles and like that cute little mole on the one you love, which is a blot to another, only endears you the more. I hope I can end up wearing the bike out and grow old together with it. As with every true love affair, it becomes a part of you and you with it. Thus proclaims the single, middle-aged old git... who has loved and lost but loves again, beit only an Italian dream and not a human being. With the passing of time comes the realisation of one's mortality and the weakness of the flesh if only in it's passing. So I seize the day before my time passes and life's chances are gone... not unlike my money, spent, never to return.

If you want an R but already have an S, i would not go fot this R.. i'd wait and see what happens by 2015! ..you might see R's that will really set you ablaze! and savour the moment and the yearning... postpone gratification as passion flees fast, once the high has passed...

Save yer dosh the margins on the pani "special" are so small compared to the other models it simply doesn't justify the price tag, in my opinion' seriously you'd need to know yer dukes to be able to distinguish it as the R' model to your average joe at at pumps or local meets- its just one of them Ducati panigale thingy's (till you bore them with the engine internals stuff) ...yawn! I'd rather sit on the cash!!!
I have an S Tricolore (as well as an 1198S Corse Limited Edition and a Bayliss 1098R). The difference between the S Corse and the Bayliss is night and day, the R is a complete animal. Having ridden the 1199R, there really is no difference between that and my S. If you want an R, go for it, but the difference between the two is very small. The Panigale R is not like the old R's of the 996/998/999 and 1198.....
Well after wrecking my brain for a few days over bike and changing the body work to the r model I changed it all so.£5200 is lot money to throw at it but termi full system,all body work and tank and the all the carbon when I started trying to price it all it was going to cost a lot more then the fitting of the termi,s so bike is now all sorted.will get few pics up.
