Totally off the subject but any one recommend a good set of brake and clutch leavers to upgrade to for the 848?
I think you might have misread my posts El T. I'm not about to buy one as my bike has a quick shifter as standard. However I have heard that the HM ones are good and in fact better than the DQS ones if you were looking at fitting one to a bike without a quick shifter. Just for clarity I think the DQS is fine and I'm not looking at getting the HM one.
No I didn't misread your posts. You just seemed to be stating that an aftermarket one was better than the standard though you had no knowledge or experience of that being the case. And tbh I am struggling to see how it could be given that on the DQS you just bang the gear lever up as you need to, and providing you keep the revs up at the same time in snicks in nicely and with no fuss whatsoever. The only thing that would make it (or any other QS) quicker would be if you could flick your left foot quicker.
Ok we seem to be entering into a conversation on a public forum. Maybe someone with first hand experience of replacing a DQS with an HM unit could give a considered opinion rather than relaying marketing hype as I have proved unworthy of relaying said opinion?
Or Pazzo if you have the money. And if not, it's Chinese and then you can scour this forum for all the discussions as to whether Chinese levers are just as good as Pazzo or ASV at a fraction of the price, or if they are secretly made of cheese, or if you are just too chicken to find out as you hurtle towards a hairpin with a sheer drop if the bike doesn't stop.
+1 oh and I have replaced mine with an HM, works for me, but if ya happy with what you've got that's fine  Years of development and testing have finally ended in the most advanced quickshifter available outside Moto GP
After my first real run out on saturday and managing to get some heat in the tyres for the first time i shall try to explain what i mean as compared to the JIL4's which I have owned. Riding on a good twisty fast road I can hold her in 3rd etc and simply roll off the throttle when coming into a bend. The engine reduces my speed allowing me to keep the bike stable and not upset the suspension with the brakes. The engine braking effect is much more prominent than it ever was on my GSXR1000. I cannot tell you what my revs were etc but can say when you find the spot, everything clicks into place. Not sure if the effect is quite as noticeable on the 848 though as I have never ridden one. Not sure if that makes any sense, all i know is i found it and it worked well for the spirited riding which i was enjoying!
I've had a variety of JIL4's before my 848 EC SE (Blades, GSXR1000, ZX10, R1 etc) and I haven't noticed any real difference when tonking it then rolling off as you've described.
