Sorry you got turned away. I didn't bother going in the end. Rich at louigi moto confirmed that my bike would fail the noise test, so I went down to the Italia show in Bristol instead, it was an almighty noise with about 300 bikes riding into town had a great day and decided that my next bike will be a monster based cafe racer special. Deaks (still with ringing ears)
I wasn't complaining at not getting on the track at all, I knew it was a 105 day and that they test differently to ACU regs. It's all to do with locals complaining that the racetrack next door is too noisy. What also made me laugh was that I took ( the paraplegic bike racer who runs the bike experience) SV650 race bike to be tested and informed the noise nazi that the bike was going to be used for demonstrating, his words were I don't care, if it fails he won't ride it, the only bike that will get on track that fails noise testing will be the Bathams BSB bike, now there favouritism.
That wasnt you looking to swipe my carbon exhaust guard was it??!!lol!! Hope you had a good day! I know i did!!
1037sps, i like your cunning. its crafty ideas like this that keeps everyone on their toes. Not a bad idea for a plod test i think!
I passed with standard pipes on a 1198. He told me to rev it to 8k, I told him to poke it as it red lines at 9.5(ish). I revved it to 6, and passed. Apparently it's 75% of max, so my 6k wasn't far off. My mate revving his CBR to a valve bouncing 11 (red line at 14) failed, despite being a road legal exhaust. He wasn't happy....
If I was trying to piss off the locals I'd point the exhaust of the vehicles being tested directly at the nearest houses. I'd also put the testing spot as close As Possible to the houses near the exit. Oh. They do? That's good thinking....
Good to see you Nelson! Shame i didnt get to chat-was just on my way out for the assessed ride. good day!!
No probs. Well organized event IMO. Did you gey any pics? I though the arrangements for the 'official' pics were very poor. Huge line to have a look and no web-site!
The ACU hand book for 2013 is a bit of a nightmare to understand but its all there on page 86 ,87 , 88 . so I think there is quite a bit of interpretation needed an you could read it many different ways .https://docs.google.com/viewer?url=http://www.acu.org.uk/uploaded/documents/ACU-HANDBOOK_2013.pdf . That said every track can have there own rules anyway. I'll just stick with the Germans they are more friendly.
From the Castle Combe website ... Castle Combe Track Days - Bike Information Noise Restriction The noise limit for the day is 105 db(A), which is measured at ½ metre from the exhaust outlet at ¾ maximum revs. It is the rider’s responsibility to ensure that their machine is within this limit. All machines are sound tested prior to going out on the circuit. In the event of a machine failing the sound check, then the rider will be entitled to a 75% refund. If you are unsure if your bike will get through the noise test (i.e. if it is fitted with an after market exhaust system), then you can always come over to get the bike noise tested prior to booking a place. IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING SOUND TESTING: Manufacturers are now launching bikes with shorter Moto GP style exhausts. Whilst they look great, the smaller silencer means that some of these new bikes are over our noise limits. We do appreciate the frustration of buying a brand new road legal bike only to discover that it is too loud to ride at Castle Combe. In our experience the following machines may NOT pass our strict limits: Any make & model of bike with short type side silencers Ducati 748/749/916/996/998/999, fitted with Termignoni open pipes (but any of the above with standard pipes SHOULD pass) Ducati 1098R Ducati 1198 Ducati Multistrada (2011) Ducati Panigale - all models Honda CBR1000RR - 2008 model and 2010 modelon Kawasaki ZX10 - 2009 and 2010 model KTM RC8 Suzuki GSXR600 K6 Suzuki GSXR600 K7 Suzuki GSXR 750 K6 Suzuki GSXR 750 K7 Suzuki GSXR1000 K6 - 2006 model with standard exhaust Suzuki GSXR1000 K7 Suzuki GSXR1000 K8 Triumph 675 - 2009 model (short type side can) Yamaha R6 - 2006 model Yamaha R6 - 2008 model (short type side can) Yamaha R6 - 2009 model (short type side can) Yamaha R1 - 2008 and 2009 model Allowing just one machine on to the circuit over our noise limits could jeopardize the day to all our track users - hence the rigid policing of the regulations forced upon us by the local authorities. This information is issued for guidance, we are always happy to sound check a bike prior to a customer making a booking. Please contact us for further information.
