Also meant to say if Shoei released that Rainey replica helmet I’d buy one in a flash, much better than some of the absolutely gash colour schemes they have at present!!
Not ashamed to say this made me cry. Partly for selfish reasons because of what could have been ,but mainly the humility and strength of character that is Wayne Rainey. A gentleman and true champion in every way.
That era was when I got into bike racing properly, yes I remember Sheene and Roberts but I think these guys were at another level. Loved the Rainey and Shwantz battles, pity Kev couldn’t have made it too but fantastic to see Rainey on a Yammy again. Back then my mate had an RD500 in Marlboro colours and he had Rainey’s helmet. Doesn’t seem like 26 years ago
Now who have I got here? Taken November 1990 Brands Hatch 'Save The Children' I was fortunate to be racing that day too.
Schwantz was there on that day as well, in fact he auctioned off his leathers (or one set of them, anyway). Oh and Ron Haslam. https://www.visordown.com/features/general/3-11-90-first-day-champions
