Battery recommendations ?

  1. My 2005 ST4s battery is on it's last legs.
Any thoughts on a good replacement ?
Should I stick with the YUSA YT12B-BS or is there a stronger alternative that wont break the bank.
    Thanks in advance

  2. Just bought a Motobatt. Found some good info from the USA where some guy has done lots of testing. Mine was £66 from Ebay, for a carb SS.

  6. I got a Varta one last time, was about 20% cheaper than the Yuasa one.

  7. Motobatt from ebay ... before ...

    and fitted ..

Had to modify the retaining bracket to open out the "wings"......

First impressions good - started instantly without pre-charge (as recommended)
Lets see how its lasts !

  8. I have a lithium on my KTM 350EXC - incredibly light with more CCA than stock.
Just didnt want to spend the £150+ for the ST4 !

  9. 2.5 years later and the Motobatt was failing fast so replaced with ....
    JMT Lithium Ion Battery YT12BFP
Left the bike parked up for last 3 months and went to start at the weekend, first press and fired straight up. Much more cranking power than Pb, and retained its charge fine, also low weight.
So far well worth the cost

  10. Hi

Thinking about one of these for my ST, especially as the price is looking much better.

Did you have to buy a charger as well?

  11. I would very strongly urge anyone with a bike and particularly a battery that sits close to the engine not to have any type of Lithium battery. They do not like heat and need a precise charger. There is other stuff too but I usually get pelters from guys who have had one for a few years. OK you have been lucky is my reply

  12. I'm shocked that your motobatt only lasted 2½ years. Is the charge system OK?

  13. Yuasa are brilliant, if not light...

  14. My Motobatt lasted two years I've replaced it with a Yuasa from Halfords. Not a bad price with a trade card.
Incidentally I bought a Halfords branded battery for my lawn mower and when the guy brought it from the stock room it was in a larger box with Yuasa branding. The guy told me all Halfords own brand battery's are made by Yuasa.

  15. I might be wrong but I thought the latest 1299 had a Lithium battery as standard, yet people are saying don't have one near the engine.
When you buy a specific charger do you have to tell the bike charging system that it now needs to be specific too?

  16. I didnt, but I have a simple charger which can be used. The Lithiums dont like the modern chargers which spike the battery in some cycles.
I've only charged it once, just after starting the bike following 3 months stood.
They don't like trickle charge, but don't really need it.

  17. It was charging OK, just going too flat to start the bike after a couple of weeks, so time for change.

  18. Johnny, I've heard of some issues, but non specifically. Any stories to share ?

  19. Just got the Ducati ST4 916 sporttourer 2001 JMT Lithium Ion Battery YT12B-FP for my ST4 £78 ish on ebay. I was worried about the charger but the Trophy 900 Oxford Oximiser from M&P, also on ebay for £22, says it suits Lithium battery ... SO, for £100 all in, I hope it's all OK! :)
