I went from 1098 to 899 in 2014. Regretted as soon as I had the first service and opened the throttle. Really missed the grunt. Soon changed the 899 for a 1199. Kept that 4years and also bought a 1198 for track use, which I preferred, so got rid of the 1199,bought a 2018 gsxr1000r for the track and a 1198 for the road
Depends how you ride it. 1198 can be 3rd almost everywhere and just ride the torque. 899 will need gear changes. So really, it’s whether you prefer to feel like your thrashing it up to 3 figures or whether you feel like you’re touring.
I think this is possibly why ducati are launching the v2. So many of the hyperbikes seem to end up on the track but some feedback has been they are too much for the road. This is one of the reasons why I chose the gixer 750 over the thousand, the 750 was more involving and rewarding to ride
It's horses for courses, my gixer is more advanced in every way to my 1198, but for me, the 1198 is the best bike I've had, just so good to ride
I think bradders is utterly fucked off with what his phone covers his words to. note. Wrote converts. iPhone change to covers.
I went from a superstock spec 1098R supposed to be producing in the region of 190 rwhp to a V4S with Akrapovic race system. The V4 made the 1098R feel pedestrian and awkward. Andy
I can honestly say my 1098R is the most God awful road bike I've ever ridden. How Ducati tried to pass it off as a road bike I'll never know. It's all wrong. The gearing's too long, low down, and the clutch is too heavy and grabby. Avoid junctions and small roundabouts. On track however...... Even after 11 years it's amazing. Fabulous machine I hardly use it these days but just can't bring myself to selling it.... *And if your 1098R ever feels 'pedestrian' you're not or haven't been riding it properly. Pedestrian it ain't!
I think so, not had chance to ride it since Neil serviced it, but it ticks over OK now. Put some nice akra cans on as well to up the volume a bit
On track (IME) the 848 1098 1198 range were pigs to corner. There's load of info around re adding and upgrading parts to compensate for the crap geometry.
Well ,I did the opposite, I went from a 899 to a 1198s and then to a 999s, just can't get away from the xx9 series. From 1198 a 899 will seem like a push bike lol
