Ok any suggestions for a digital dash for 996? Something that is preferably plug and play and will fit the looks. Can skip few idiot lights but would like oil pressure, charging and indicators if possible. For SSie I want something again plug and play, not to big as it will go on monster and not to advanced. Air temp, oil temp, speed, tacho and total/trip miles is enough. I can even skip idiot lights on it as can get that sorted other way.
I've got a translogic dash on my 996 sps and yeah it's ok for a track dash, no idiot lights at all but the newer ones might have. It's not plug and play either, gotto set up rev scale which you either need a dyno, piggy back tacho or timing strobe to do accurately. The gear indicator needs the speedo setting up first and to do this you need to go through half the set up cycle and follow a mate at 30 mph as you obviously have no other speedo fitted. Then the display has no actual scale being a universal item, so you either guess the revs or have to put tape or marker pen on the screen at where you think the revs are in the first place, or, spend some dyno time or piggy back a tacho to mark it up accurately. I'd get a Magnetti Marreli if i did it again, but the translogic is fairly small and neat looking for a monster.
It is to big for a monster. Acewell does small enough for monster that would look good but nothing that would look good on 996.
I've got Translogic on both bikes (916 & Monster), not plug and play but then no dash would be on bikes with a mechanical speedo. Setup is fairly easy; the rev counter thing is pretty obvious as it is set in 'half steps' so at idle it may show too much initially but it will be double (or more) so you just select the next setting until you get the right one. As for the speedo I cable tied a car satnav (with speed reading) to the bike to get a known 30mph for calibration. I like them easy to read and give all the necessary info, only criticism for me is the speed reading should be the bigger number rather than the gear indication.
If you don't want to pay Translogic money then the Trailtech Vapor looks good; Vapor Digital Gauge at Trail Tech Home
If it was waterproof like mc dash should then I guess I would not have misting, analog tacho failure, both buttons failure and after off it now only shows speed/odo under the misting up. Functions cool, looks cool, built quality well. This one looks sweet for monster.
i have an older AIM on my SS. you can find them second hand, these are used on karts. i paid 125 € for mine. henk!!!
