I got myself another ss, this time a great '92 900. The previous owner fitted a longer rear shock but now I've a problem. I can't push out the stand with my toe whilst sitting. Embarrassing really but I've got Italian legs! An old bike of mine had an arm on the stand if you know what I mean. Any suggestions on fixing my problem? I'm having to get off to get the stand out!
Are Italian legs short then?......If so, I'm half Italian (the lower half)..............yep, its a s*d....even more now I have moved my footrests back.....twice I knocked it into gear putting the stand down........I'll I have a look at my spare stand as well and see if I can invent you a spike or summat....(I was thinking of doing it ages ago) AL.
It all depends on whther you want to alter the existing stand or retain it in its OEM form. You can get a 50mm long x say, 8mm diameter spur in aluminium welded on, which probably wouldn't weaken the stand..... You could try drilling and tapping the stand M5 (I wouldn't go larger than M5) x 8mm deep max and loctiting in a 50mm x 5mm stainless steel spur, threaded enough at the appropriate end.........I doubt it would weaken the stand, but wouldn't guarantee that comment. Or, you could get a piece of stainless steel strip 2mm thick x 20mm wide x 150mm long..........bend it round the stand foot or a socket that is just under 18mm mm diameter, so you form a loop with equal legs......drill two holes through both legs and bolt them tight once you have sprung the loop around the stand.....It will mark the stand doing it no matter how careful you are.... You can reduce the leg width (the 20mm) once they are bolted together to about 10mm (bolt / screw head diameter). I'm doing a CAD drawing of that at the moment. AL
Thanks! I've been looking at photos on google and can see a quick fix. Your last suggestion is this same fix. Ps, I bought electric sheeps old 900 and its miles better than my 750!
OK......I have put it under 'S' PS....It bl**dy well won't if I make it.......you try turning something on an 18mm stem when it was moulded round a 17mm socket..... You cannot move this and its only an M5 bolt. AL
Remote throttle adjuster using a spare tripmeter cable..... Supervee reckoned the idea of a loop around the stand would slip................just pointing out that even with an M5 bolt a loop around a tube won't slip, if it is done properly. AL
