  1. * Note to OP.

Exige has older 999R (s) so will always disagree with anyone that states that the newer (05&06) models are superior. He fondly imagines the older models are superior because he owns one or more.
And of course we all know gen 1 models are better than gen 2  NOT..... :)

Don't take my word for it (or his) Research it ;)

  4. You also know Ducati changed from measuring BHP at the rear wheel to at the crank in 2004 for the 2005 model year :):upyeah:

  8. You also know the difference between a rear wheel measurement and a crank measurement is about 15 BHP don’t you :yum

  9. What's the difference between a rear wheel and a crank?

  10. Who you calling a crank?

  11. A rear wheel is a rear wheel, sometimes has stickers on it, you’re a crank :bucktooth:

  13. Thread moved to the Multistrada Forum (as no *real* 999Rs were manufactured after 2004).

  18. If they are the same, then why go to higher lift cams with more duration?
AMA rules for US superbike class limited the amount of engine modifications for 2005, Ducati just incorporated the race improvements into the std spec for the "production" model 999R, eg. Ti Valves, beryllium valve seats, 104mm bore, lumpier cams.
The 15hp difference wasn't due to the method of measurement.

  19. Sorry but the method of measurement is factual to bring them in line with the competition towards the end of 2004 - the difference between the two methods is however a guestimate, but often considered to be a minimum of 10% :) all 999R's are 104mm bore :eyes:
Of course it could be true that the higher lift cams and larger valves helped with a full system, but not necessarily in standard spec. The road bikes were quite simply pretty much equal on power and the earlier bike could well be a tad more :eyes:
