I've fallen out of love with ingerland not that I ever liked it that much in truth. I pay for my children's education and health are, and contribute in both tax and employment. I have done for years. The brexit referendum has made it abundantly clear that, as an EU citizen, neither the english nor the Welsh desire my presence any longer, so as soon as the kids are mobile education wise, I won't stay any longer. The fact that this vote, which is a vote based entirely upon a notion of xenophobia and english superiority the victors now feel the need to celebrate ostentatiously is just more grit under the saddle I have helped to create jobs in a deprived area, and we employ a fairly large and very cohesive multiracial workforce. Most of the english who will speak to me honestly about their reasons for voting brexit simply say "too many foreigners" I love being European, and having the right to move and settle across the continent, which is the most beautiful and varied part of the globe. I think EU laws are largely progressive, and that whilst far from flawless, the EU has been a great force for good. I'd take the flawed European Parliament over the collection of vile bigots, opportunists, liars and idiots who comprise the current front bench Anyhow, like I said, I tried to make a life here, and contribute, but I won't stay where I'm not wanted.. Ill leave you all to this thread. I will add one point. For the first time in my time here, I feel wary of having a European accent, and I am careful when and where I speak when I'm out and about.
I can't help notice whilst claiming brexit was about immigration and the eu is progressive, you refuse to comment on the eu paying billions to turkey to keep immigrants from getting into europe by building a wall of over 700kms long.
Only joking Flatty. I feel saddened at your last post, that is not the England I know. The vast majority of my friends and family including myself voted to leave the EU. Not one of us voted for immigration reasons, it was to do with us controlling our own destiny. With me it also included a poke in the eye for the so called EU elite. The same EU elite that belittled our collection of countries by calling us uneducated, racist and bigots. I wish you well Flatty, in my eyes you will always be welcome here. Cheers
a very noble and worthwhile comment. however, its beyond doubt that Brexit was built around immigration issues. a false narrative easily sold because of an underlying bigotry propagated by our politics and media. (education). I have been called all sorts by them for as long as i can remember. British nationalism is alive and well in the UK.
Thanks for that, but it's uncomfortable feeling you have to speak softly, or not at all. I asked several people why they voted for brexit. Most replied saying there were too many foreigners. Two lads said, and I quote "too many pakis" Whatever the reasons, there's an edge out there that wasn't there before, and I feel warier than I did. Brexit, which was barely on anyone's radar five years ago, has become the touchstone for a lot of unpleasantness.
That’s because you’ve got your head so far up your arse you’ve started to enjoy the view. Take a walk round any town out there and you’ll see what is actually happening.
As I say, never seen any of it, as mentioned above, we have over 400 staff from offshore here, mainly Eastern European. Never heard of or seen an issue - we are all happy here
I hate the thought of you and others feeling like you do. I’m from the South East and I obviously cannot understand how it must feel. I’m off to finmland in April and I must say I’m interested in how I will be treated being an English man. The Scottish and English have a reputation of hating each other but a lot of that is nonsense ( I hope!!). Would I be wary of my accent in a Glasgow pub, possibly. If I never return the finms have got me!!!!! Take care Flatty.
I see eye opening experiences on your horizon. I too have a South Eastern UK accent (Ramsgate). So, as soon as we speak, it's difficult to hide our 'Englishness'. It'll be 'noticed' in a Glasgow pub.
i dont believe the propoganda. thats why i went from no to yes and remain. (i did go through a brief period of anti EU immigration in the late 90s) yip, and that "problem" is having an interest in people and how they work. i'v noticed the silence in here and out there when there should of been speaking out. i;v noticed the hypocracy, i noticed the labels that get dished out and the fury when its returned. i,v noticed the day in day out messages aimed at people like me and our cousins accross the water over the last decafe or so, and not just by some oddball on the internet. but by all the big players in politics and accross the media. i'v listened to the expieriances of my customers and the testomonies of folks on line. i also expect the incoming DQ's. surely i dont need to put a caviat in every time the bigotry issue is raised. why so deffensive?. i know what standards we are held to. what do you hope to achieve by holding yourself to a different, lower standard?
so it dosent exist? i have removed people from this workshop twice over the last 3years because of comments from 1st time vist twats that dont know me from adam or my politics. . and put a few others in place too. and funnily enough, all bar one had something in common. if i where sombody else on here, i would call you a liar.
