I’ve been considering a 1098R for a few years now on and off. There’s one at DHSuperbikes with the number plaque on the yoke 077/450. I’ve looked at a few R’s in the past but they haven’t been numbered. Why are some numbered? I thought they made 1500 not 450 bikes?
So I assume the USA got 450 bikes and numbered them. That’s a bit cheeky making out it’s a limited run of 450 bikes when there are actually 1500 world wide.
Nothing new for DHSuperbikes. Being a US model, it would have been supplied with a carbon end can half system which is probably why the original exhaust is in a box. What is fitted is not a full 70mm system. Funny collector that has a chain covered with shit. The original tank being available rings alarm bells as that composite tank is notorious for swelling due to ethanol. If it did live in the US it’s a given as the US use a higher percentage of ethanol in their petrol. It is not unusual for a small number of US models to be seen in Europe as I heard a rumour that the US didn’t take their full allocation but given the popularity of the 1098R 2 years ago when the prices went through the roof, it’s reasonable for someone to import one. IMO, it’s over priced and strangely no mention of the all important service record. Andy
yes, cheap skates on later "Rs" weren't they? I reckon they only fitted a carbon seat fairing because of the heat issues..
There's a slightly cheaper UK one with a few more miles on in Newcastle. https://mandsmotorcycles.co.uk/product/ducati-1098-r/
And one a bit more expensive here: https://www.lussoveloce.com/vehicles/2008-ducati-1098-r just a shame about the change of colour .
Yep the tank protectors and spare tank did make me wonder. To be fair Darren Haselwood of DHSuperbikes is a genuinely honest and decent bloke. He’s a keen biker who’s just set up. He’s always ridden Jap bikes. I was a bit surprised when he started selling Ducatis as I don’t think he’s all too familiar with them. Definitely gone in at the deep end by selling the top notch stuff.
The wheels on the yank one look a bit too gold/yellow too.. (could be the lights) but to my knowledge and knowing mine and others they are more gold/green than gold/yellow (if that makes any sense? ..)
Then he needs to engage with someone who can give him correct information about the Ducati he wants to market. This is not his first Ducati listing on eBay that demonstrates a lack of product knowledge. Andy
but that's "later" - later - finally learnt their lesson after all the U.S. PA6 recalls (let alone the rest of the world).
