depends where you live. if you live in a city forget the 1299 as its a pig going through traffic. its fab on your favourite twisty etc roads , great feed back from the beast but I tended to avoid going large towns etc. the v4s is much easier to ride and gives great feedback. I got rid of my 1299 for a v4s as others have said times change and bikes move on in rideability in the real world.
Don't get that, as they are the same bike as when first released. Throwing a spanner in the works...... In my (far from) expert opinion, why blow that much dosh for something to ride on the road? Why not 'only' blow £20k ish and get the last good looking Ducati? Spoiler Will feel special riding it (much like the two options you have presented), and will command a good price when selling it (if you ever do).
On the subject of dashes. I can’t believe the difference a dish dash makes. Sorry that’s a typo meant nice dash
I must admit I toy with swapping my FE for a V4R, but I can’t bring myself to let it go. The monocoque frame, swing arm, etc from the homologated R, combined with the engine from the SL (without the aluminium cylinder liners) means it’s a lot more special than most people think. However, it needs the race system, as soon as that is fitted it becomes a different beast. Then there’s the colour scheme, I nearly cancelled my order when it was revealed. My preference when I ordered mine was to get one of the last R’s. But I couldn’t find one at that time so went for the FE. Then when I saw it, big disappointment. A few changes gave me the best of everything, the motor of the SL, the geometry of the R and the look of a R with hint of SL (R paint job with carbon exposed fairings on the edge). Maybe I’ll swap out my 899 for the V4R instead...
Agree, much better in red. I love the wheelbarrow exhaust from the side but from the top/ looking at 45 degrees it looks bulbous to me. Makes the bike look much wider than it is.
To much considering the initial purchase price... But to fair I went all in on the paint work. No decals and everything including all the lettering is painted in.
My opinion would be go for the 2020 V4S as your riding on the road. All the latest spec/ Tech and is fun to ride. Although whilst too much for the road, 200+ BHP will be managed by all the Electronic Tech and you also have 2 years warranty if it requires any recalls etc. As much as I like the Pain R, It's quite old Tech by comparison with the V4S. @jimblive Great looking bike, best of both worlds in the Pain R/ FE options. Regarding the V4R thinking by trading the 899 is the right option, I did this and kept the 1199SL too nice to part with at this point.
