Cheers Andy. I only asked as I used the suction mount on my Drift, then rubber banded the camera to the mount to prevent it popping out (which it has done once, but im sure that was my fault). The suction mount was clearly strong enough, but the vibes were pretty rubbish. I had some adhesive mounts that Im going to try as well. Thankfully as the bike is black, they wont be too noticeable. Its fun to experiment, but yes losing the camera is a big worry. Just have to work out a good secondary system that prevents the camera bouncing into the trees
You can buy a tripod mount Andy. This has a threaded hole that will allow you to bolt it to a bracket or 'P' clip to go on the frame. GoPro Tripod Mount for HD Hero 2 UK Seller GP2014 | eBay Rubber Lined P Clips EPDM Hose Pipe Clamps - Cable Wiring Tube - Choice Listing | eBay
There are two holes on the camera mount for this very reason I think. Its just finding somewhere to lockwire it to
That's not a bad shout at all. I'll have a good look at my options after the weekend. I'm sure it's pretty straightforward but I'm not thinking the adhesive is a good plan near the pipes. Thanks for these links!
Not a 1080p but not going to open up another camera thread. Got a cheap camera from one of those "sell what you stole" places, comes with 3 months warranty so if I have any issues with it I can take it back. Its a Kodak M590 I managed to pick up for £20 included a 2 gig micro sd card but I already had a 16 gig micro at home. Anyway, modified the front of my helmet so I can slot in the camera, much like this. Cut the section out in one piece so I can glue it back in if needs be. M13's Helmet Camera Setup Revealed! - YouTube As the Kodak is much thinner than the camera used in the video its not as obtrusive and it works. Microphone is at the front of the camera so picks up quite a bit of wind noise but definitely be able to hear my voice at traffic lights and lower speeds. Pottered around Carlisle to get the angling right and will use it to log one of my regular routes tomorrow. Will do till I save enough for a proper job. Hopefully upload something tomorrow!
Had another trial tonight but this time chose to waste about half an hour tying a lanyard on and gaffa taping it so it didn't swing about and scratch the fairing. Think I was safe enough leaving it as it was last time without the lanyard. Was worth a test. I'm not sure if the P clip thing will work. I reckon I might be able to rig something up but it will need to hang out to the side and face backwards. Needs a bit of playing around for an hour or two. An adhesive mount on the tail unit where the pillion's feet would be facing backwards will work though. Assuming it doesn't get too hot there too...
Well, the aforementioned micover thingy arrived today. Pretty quick. Here's what it looks like... Wee bit Don King eh? If the weather makes its mind up I'll road test it tonight. In the meantime here's another video from Monday, the plan is to shoot some more with the same camera location to compare the two - without the cover then with the cover. This clip is just using the standard vented back door again. I'll post the micover backdoor version once I get some footage.
Pretty good that. I'm trying to load a clip of 3 sessions Sunday at the airfield trackday, lets see if YT takes it this time...quality isnt quite in the same ball park
I ended up having a brilliant run out last night, easily the best one yet on the 848. Had 1hr 40 of footage to sift through and work out. I've split it into sections and junked the boring bits. Only clip I've got "ready" is this one. I reckon the micover thingy has reduced the wind noise a lot but I'll listen back to previous clips later on and see. Seems well worth the £15 anyway.
Here it is, £30 cam from behind screen so pic is worsened because its looking thru the plastic, sound isnt great but enough. Does what I need it too Its a mate riding my bike at weekend on airfield 'circuit'
Odiham 28 April 13 - YouTube 3 sessions edited to one clip, functional but not on par with you bigger boys lol Looking forward to Donnington and a proper track I can use kerbs on and really hammer it at...some of the locals completely ignore the surface etc but hitting overbanding with the bike on my knee wasnt massive fun tbh
